Great Pyrenees Rescue of Central Illinois

Our journey as a formal 501(c)(3) rescue is coming to an end as of 12/31/2024. I would like to share some information about the changes in our operation and where we are on this.
-We have closed intake on new rescues but will always be available for our adopters if they need help and our adoptees should they need to return.
-We will never be able to thank our donors/adopters/fosters/volunteers over the many years enough, and hope the support we were given is now given to other Great Pyrenees rescues. That is what we hope to do as well as we move forward.
-We will be updating records and contacting adopters we haven't heard from for a while to be sure they are aware that we are still committed to the dogs we have placed. If you are an adopter or know one of our adopters we haven't heard from please send us an update.

These two cuties were never reclaimed. We named them Winky and Wonky. Both shy but very sweet. They have been vetted are recovering from their spay surgeries as well as an eye surgery for Winky. Wonky is ready for an adoptive or foster home. Winky needs a little more time to heal. Single picture is Wonky.

Chief has been ADOPTED!!! This handsome hunk is Chief. Chief is an almost three year old (B.D. 11/26/2021)Great Pyrenees/Great Dane mix. GPRCI assisted his previous family in getting their dogs spayed and neutered as well as caught up on vet care but poor Chief tested positive for heartworms. He was surrendered to GPRCI and came to Bloomington for treatment. He has finished his treatment and will be groomed, neutered and ready for placement by approximately the second week of October. Chief doesn't know a stranger, walks wonderfully on leash (will react to squirrels and rabbits but is very controllable)) and rides great in the car. He is good with kids and reportedly is okay with cats and housebroken. He has been fine around goats in the past but has always been a pet as opposed to a working dog and will be placed as a family companion. Chief is a really nice boy and with a little fine tuning will be a fabulous boy. If interested in adopting Chief, please see our adoption information and application at gprci.com

These two young ladies were found and picked up by good samaritans in the Murphysboro, IL area on 09/22/2024. They are approximately 7 months old, on the smaller side for that age (50 and 42 pounds, and both female. One of the girls has what appears to be an old eye injury that has resulted in a dead, shrunken eye in the socket. Both pups will see the vet on Wednesday for a full assessment and be checked for a chip. If these are your pups or you know who they belong to, please contact me at [email protected]

Sorry to say Chevy is back with us at the rescue. All of us including her adopters are disappointed and sad this didn't work out but rescue and placement is not an exact science. Chevy is a wonderful, good girl. So so smart and eager to please. Please share her beautiful smile and help us find her forever home.
