A movement is emerging, check it out!
To everyone,
This summer I’ve been searching to understand Bloomington’s local food system. After growing produce for almost a whole growing season with Daniel Atlas, selling weekly at the farmers market, working with Mother Hubbards Cupboard (an amazing food pantry), and listening to numerous people’s takes on the local food system, I have felt a pull towards a particular project. That project is called Locallygrownmarket.com, an online order and delivery system that is specifically tailored to our home market. Locallygrownmarket.com allows us to discover local producers and products, and allows us to support our favorite local businesses with the touch of a button.
Why am I doing this?
Well, food is a key part of our society, and we live in a world where we purchase food grown far away, stored for long periods of time in unnatural environments, and transported hundreds and thousands of miles just to reach our grocery stores. What’s ironic is that fresh food is scientifically proven to be healthier, has more flavor, and when consumed locally, minimizes transportation while supporting our direct neighbors.
Now, our society is quickly moving into a digital age, and many small-scale farmers and businesses are not well connected to that environment. This creates an imbalanced playing field where products that are local are simply harder to get. Locallygrownmarket.com provides a free platform for these local producers to get discovered and connected with our community, and by delivering straight to you, makes them easily accessible.
Our goal is to have a wide variety of fresh local produce and prepared foods and beverages similar to the farmers market. Currently, you can order produce from Love Organics Farm and beverages from Kind Kombucha, with Ugo Bars coming soon. We are excited to add many more vendors in the coming weeks, and cant wait to see where this goes! Follow Locally Grown Market on facebook and Instagram to keep up to date as we grow, and if you want to sell your local products on the site, or know someone who would be interested, contact me on facebook or register on the website under Vendors -> vendor registration to begin today ☺
Thank you and much love,
Enrique Hernandez-Jimenez
