Today was a big day for Bear and Mac!

After several cancellations over the past 2 months due to the weather, Bear finally got castrated. He wasn’t acting studdy, but I want Chloe to move into the gelding pasture, as she is getting beat up with the mares right now. Mac came along for vaccinations/coggins, as he is due in July. He did amazing unloading, walking into the arena, and hanging out for a couple hours. Him and Bear were both on edge when we went into the clinic part to weigh them, but it was a long afternoon and I’m happy with how they both did! Bear weighs a shocking 700 pounds which was more than any of us thought he would 💪

I got behind on posting videos again, but wanted to share this one from over a week ago of Mac. I think this was only his 3rd time ever picking up his feet, but he’s so level headed that it was no big deal to have no halter on. He is going to be a very in your pocket horse- he already follows me around his pen for scratches whenever I am in there ❤️

It may not be a ton, but progress is progress 🙌 This girl doesn’t want a ton of things thrown at her at once (which I’ve known since I started working with her), so we go one step at a time and after one session, she’s got that down, and we can move to the next. I don’t think she will be ready to graduate right at the 30 days of training mark (in 8 days), like Jay, but she also just started halter breaking a week ago, so she’s still moving along nicely, even if it takes 3 more weeks, and that’s okay! She is incredibly smart and I know she is gonna be an amazing partner for someone ❤️

Another old video that I never got around to posting. On Sunday, Mac learned how to load and did amazing. He even learned how to back out during the first session, which I don’t usually teach until after a few successful loading sessions with walking out. He reminds me a lot of Scout so far, which I didn’t expect at all since Dunkin and Frappe weren’t at all like him (all four are from the same HMA)!

I got behind on updates, but miss Imani had her first leading session on Wednesday! I definitely expected her to be pretty reactive to the lead pressure, as she has been sensitive to start. She was actually the opposite though, and didn’t mind it too much. She has also started approaching me for scratches out in the bigger mustang pen ❤️

Last night, Jay learned how to self load (without me being in the trailer) and to back out of the trailer 🥳

He now had the basics of all of the training requirements! He can’t officially graduate for a little over 2 weeks (June 11), so we will keep making the skills more solid until then! I have had a few people ask about his body condition and test results, and he is vitamin E deficient, as suspected. He is on a high dose of supplementation to get him feeling and looking better, and should look like a completely different horse in no time 😊

Jay had a tough session yesterday learning about the trailer, but we were able to end today on a great note calmly walking in and out 🙌 Once he figured it out, he had no problem hopping right in!

Miss Imani says she won’t be behind for long 🙌 She could not have cared less about introducing the halter. We’ve done lots of practice with a stick and string being put all over her face/neck which I think really helped, but I’m still amazed 🤩

My three finally have names 😅

Mac has been doing very well and has left the mustang pens a couple of times, conquered the bridge, trots in hand, and is learning to walk/trot/whoa at my shoulder. Mae is also doing very well, and flexes softly, doesn’t mind the lead rope being thrown all over, and is starting to work on me touching her legs. Johnny Cash is very unsure about people, but we were able to get some first touches in during our last session.
