Well this rough week isn’t finished with us yet. Sweet Soma came to us just over a week ago with his sister Yuki, and he has been steadily becoming more and more lethargic, to the point we wondered if he would make it through the night. Melanie has been trying to keep him eating the best she can with Carnivore Care soupies, but his appetite has really not been good. He saw a new vet yesterday and they weren’t able to do bloodwork, because they use sedation when drawing blood and were afraid to sedate him. His blood glucose then was 103, heart sounded ok, and apparently no masses discovered on that exam. He was given subq fluids and put on a round of antibiotics. Melanie noticed yesterday evening that she hadn’t seen any poops from him, and gave him PoopinPumpkin and a little salmon oil chaser. This morning he still hadn’t pooped, so she was able to get him in with her regular vet. An x-ray was done but they weren’t able to tell anything, so an ultrasound was done. U/S showed some free fluid in his abdominal area, with a diagnosis of peritonitis and inflammation of the abdominal wall, and his heart shape is a bit irregular. They haven’t rulled out lymphoma, but cytology for that will be an additional $450. They are going to keep him overnight and give him IV antibiotics and steroids. Vet costs from yesterday and so far today are approaching $1000, and will climb with his overnight stay. His sister Yuki has adrenal disease, and will be scheduled for an implant very soon. If anyone would like to donate spare pennies to help with Soma or Yuki’s vet expenses we would greatly appreciate anything you can send. As always, prayers and good thoughts for this sweet guy are always appreciated. Melanie can update or add to this when she’s able.
