Foster update for Bud:
Bud's foster mom contacted me a week ago, and said that she needed Bud's pen for future client training horses. In addition, she reported that Bud had become aggressive during feeding time. Bud suffers from Cushings disease, so changes in behavior are not uncommon in some horses. We busted a move, and put together a pen and shelter for him at the rescue, and transported him here on Sunday afternoon. Bud loaded and rode fine for the hour and half travel to get here. He was calm as I walked him into his pen. I told him he was home, gave him a pet and took off his halter. After sniffing Goobs and the gang through the fence, he put his head down and started to eat grass.
I was back to check on him a short time later, and removed his fly sheet. Bud is about 250 pounds under weight. I immediately started him on the feeding regime that my other Cushings horses are on. I have been cautious with him during feeding time, as per his foster mom's report. While he was eager to eat, and in my pocket while walking to his feed tubs, he has shown no aggression. I have held out my arm, to remind him to respect my space and he has complied. Bud is pretty vocal and wants to make sure that I know he is there. I always acknowledge him, even if I am working in another pen.
Bud decided to rub his boo boo this morning, from the fencing incident at his foster home, so I had to put meds on his wound and put his fly mask on to keep the flies off. Thank God he did not bust open the stitches. Doc T, of Nebraska Equine, will remove the stitches on Monday.
Bud is doing well with his transition to the rescue. Will keep you all posted on the weight gain and boo boo healing progress.
Welcome home Bud!
