One of my favorite stories of hope from 2025 is about Ginger and her newborn pups, who were scheduled for euthanasia that June. We had already rescued two sets of moms and pups and were out of money and space, and to make things harder, Ginger was a pitty mixâa breed that can be hit or miss for adopters. But we couldnât let this family be put down. Gingerâs profile painted her as a wonderful companion, and she truly is, though sheâs still waiting in boarding.
While Gingerâs situation weighs on me, I often think of one of her pups, Rosemary. I had the chance to meet her and host her briefly. She was shy at first, but once she opened up, she was full of playful energy! She went to a long-term foster and was soon adopted by a local family. Unfortunately, they werenât prepared for her typical puppy biting and returned her to the rescue, which broke my heart.
Not long after, another familyâseven hours awayâsaw Rosemaryâs profile and fell in love. They even witnessed her playful nipping in a virtual meet and greet and werenât deterred. I prepared her for transport and kept her briefly again, still nervous she might be returned.
Iâm so glad I was wrong. Rosemary became Molly, the beloved fur baby of Stephanie and her family. They embraced her quirks, invested in training, and committed to giving her a happy life. Stephanie still sends photos and updates about Mollyâs achievements, and this is why I continue.
Rosemary/ Molly was destined to die euthanized because she was part of the "too many". There are days that feel like they break me, but then Stephanie sends me an update, and I see the peace and love surrounding this pup. Somedays I am not sure how we will pay our constant vet bills, and again Molly pops up on my messages. These strange moments of inspiration and hope lift me up from those moments of despair when we can't help another dog sent to euthanasia.
I need to thank all of the adopters who send us updates. What we try to do in rescue is hard for all of us. Adopters and fosters thank you for your commitment. Sponsors, thank you for holding us up. I would love to see 2026 put us out of rescue because there are no more dogs needing saved. Sadly, I don't think we are there yet. So stories of hope. We need them. Rosemary/ Molly is one of my most beloved memories of this year. I hope if you read this, you can find your own story of hope and share below. I have more, but one is enough for the last day of 2025, at least from me. Maybe this will inspire someone to adopt Ginger, I am not exaggerating when I say she is truly a wonderful dog.
In either case, Happy New Year's Eve and to a year of more hope and inspiration. Please enjoy these pictures from rescue to adoption/ Rosemary to Molly.
And please consider a last minute $5 donation to close the year. All funds go to the dogs.
