Today I'd like to highlight miss Jellybean! Jellybean is one of my dwarf rats, and is currently a bit over 13 months old. Jellybean is easily one of the most confident rats I currently have, and in true dwarf nature has no idea she is smaller than the other rats! Jellybean loves to explore, and she especially loves to climb, so much so that she can often be found scaling the climbing wall in my free-range area. Jellybean also has no problems bossing the standards around, and she seems to be taking after my senior dwarf Toast's footsteps in keeping order in the cage.
Jellybean is also one of my greeter rats (one of my rats who always comes to greet anyone at the cage door!), and she is a little busybody who always wants to be part of whatever your doing! Training wise Jellybean has been one of my favorite rats in my current group to train, because she learns extremely quickly and is very easy to motivate, and despite her small size she has no problem doing everything the standards can (in fact she seems to take it as a challenge to do everything they can just as well if not better lol).

Here was my swet girl Olive working on her scent work trick! In this case she had to sniff out the #4 box and tip it over, with the #4 box being scented with cinnamon (stored inside it outside of training). As always Olive did an amazing job!

Our next rat I'd like to focus on is miss Pistachio! Pistachio is about a year old now, and out of all her sisters she is by far the squishiest and laziest rat! Part of this stems from Pistachio being a rather nervous girl, not when it comes to humans (she loves people, and seems to feel extra safe being held or pet!) or other rats (she gets tons of confidence from her ratty buddies), but rather from the environment. Pistachio tends to be fairly neophobic, and new places (especially if they are wide open) can spook her easily. As a result she isn't big on exploring, and she tends to prefer sticking to tunnels or under my blanket, areas which she seems to feel safest in.
Thankfully with age and experience Pistachio has gained quite a bit of confidence, and her cagemates have also helped a ton with this. I've noticed Pistachio spending more and more time exploring lately, and she now doesn't just dash over when spooked, but sometimes comes just to hang out like the other rats, or comes to offer tricks and try and initiate training (something which she was a bit too nervous to do much of when younger). Overall I'm quite happy to see how Pistachio has blossomed, and I expect she will just continue to gain confidence with age (much like my late rat Sugar, who went from way more timid than Pistachio to a super confident and unbothered rat by 1.5 years of age!)

Nothing to see here, just two old ladies practicing their basketball skills! Considering that both these girls struggled quite a bit initially learning basketball, its nice seeing them excel at it now. Anyways great job girls!

Next up on our rat highlight list is miss Carrot! Carrot is a very interesting rat, because while she is very much a rag doll when being handled (ie she goes totally relaxed like a rag doll cat!), she's not really a fan of being touched and typically prefers to be the one to initiate engagement. Carrot enjoys exploring but she's not a big troublemaker, and she doesn't tend to explore beyond whatever confines you give her (which is a nice change since a lot of my rats are the exact opposite!)
Carrot is quite mild mannered when it comes to the other rats, being very much middle of the group and getting along with everyone without ever squabbling. Carrot also very much enjoys her training time, and is especially a fan of item based tricks (although sometimes she decides that she'd rather stash them then return them to me lol). Overall Carrot is quite a sweet rat, and as long as you respect her boundaries she quite likes coming over to hand out on your shoulder or hand, especially if some yummy yogurt is involved!

Cracker practicing her favorite combo of fetch and walking on a rolling barrel! Cracker is a very agile and coordinated rat so she really enjoys tricks that challenge her balance and ability to multi-task - this trick combo in particular has been a favorite of hers for quite a while, so it was a lot of fun to practice it again!

Thought it would be fun to do a miniseries highlighting each of my sweet rats, and first up we have miss Cinnamon! Cinnamon here is a year old, and when I first got her I really didn't think we'd click well because she was quite timid and spooked so easily. Fast forward a few months though and she really made a huge turn around - nowadays she's one of my most confident rats, boldly exploring new places and being highly motivated by adventure!
Cinnamon's absolute favorite thing to do is explore somewhere new, which really makes me thankfully that she's good at coming when called because there have been many instances where I was putting away the rats only to go "where is Cinnamon?!" Cinnamon is also a ton of fun to train with - initially she would get spooked or distracted and run off more than her sisters, but with time and experience she has really developed a nice attention span and she's now become quite quick at picking up new tricks!

One of my favorite "chaotic training" moments with my late group consisting of Donut, Olive, Omelet, Egg, Blueberry, Banana, Butter, and Toast! Donut was so good at focusing, even when she was quite old like in this clip she managed to maintain amazing focus during training, even when her buddies were being goobers lol.

Coffee is learning to stack cups! This is just her first session with the cups, so she's still getting the idea - but I'm very happy with her progress, especially because this time last week she didn't even really have a genralized fetch! Great job Coffee!

Another Pickle video, with her doing one of her favorite agility obstacles (weaving)! In every rat group I seem to end up with 1-2 rats who are just crazy good at weaving and absolutely love it - for Pickle's group that was her and her sister Donut, both were weaving fiends and always got so excited when the weaves came out!
