Why do you like 4-H?

I really like getting to learn about all the new stuff with my animal. I also like to be with all the people who do it.

Why should other kids join?

Other kids should join because it gives kids an awesome learning experience and because you get to know your animal and learn how to take care of your animal. It makes me feel that I am part of a group.

Community support of 4-H is important because it makes such a difference when we can help each other out. There are things we can’t do alone and we can do so much better with others help and it teaches kids how important it is to support each other!

We love doing 4-H because we really like being involved with others around us. It also teaches us how to care for animals and how to set goals and achieve them. Record keeping has also been something we’ve learned.
Other kids should join 4-H because it’s fun, you learn a lot that you really can’t anywhere else and you get to be part of a club with your friends!

I like raising animals for the fair. We get to work with them and train them to behave during show.

Community is important because they support and sponsor us during our 4H experience. They provide awards, and incentives to reach for. They also buy animals at the fair. The money used is put away for college and next years project. Community support helps us to build a better future.

I have learned how to prioritize my responsibility. I work my lamb daily so he will be ready. I also feed and water him so that he will make weight and be ready for show. At our club meetings I have learned sportsmanship, quality control, communication, and life lessons through members demonstrations. The older members are good examples of how to be patient and service oriented.

Others should join 4-H because it gives them opportunities and lessons that wouldn’t be experienced anywhere else. There are lots of different options in 4-H, not just livestock projects. There is cooking, sewing, legos, rockets, archery, shooting, and lots more. There is just about something for everybody. Life lessons will always be learned and friendships made.

What do you like about 4H?

The thing I like most about 4-H is that you not only get to work with animals but you also get to learn experience of how the animals should be taken care of and how the animals behave. I have learned how to be responsible and ready through my years of 4-H. I have also learned the leadership side of helping and serving others. By putting others before self and lifting others by service we learn many life lessons that will carry us into the future.

Why do you think community support is important?

The reason I think the community is important is because without the community we would not even have 4-H. The community comes to the fair and support us in the auction. Without the community support we would not be able to sell the sheep, pigs, cows, goats, and the other species. But community support isn’t just about the auction but is also about the friendships and networks we are able to build by communicating and working with community members to make good experiences and opportunities for the youth in our area.

What have you learned by being in 4H?

Through 4-H I have learned to have a good attitude because sheep know how you feel and they will act that way too. Not only have a good attitude but also a lot of responsibility by making sure my sheep has water food and shade at all times we also have to walk our sheep and that is also a big responsibility. I have also learned about money responsibility and what I should do with my money for later on purposes. I have learned a lot of things through 4-H that I will use in my later years.

Why should other kids join 4H?

I think other kids should come join 4-H is because they will get to spend time with friends and get lots of experience with an animal and learn lots of other good things they will need to know later on in their life like money management and responsibility and why it is important to stay active in agriculture and the outdoors. So, the reasons why they should join 4-H is to get experience, learn responsibility and much more.

What do you like about 4H?

Raising livestock for show and being able to care for them. I also enjoy teaching others about how to care and raise them so they can have good quality animals and a good experience.

What have you learned by being in 4H?

I have learned to take on the responsibility of caring for an animal. I also learned what animals are good quality and animals that aren’t the best quality. I have also learned that it is important to manage your money in the correct ways so you don’t over spend. Time management is also another key lesson I have learned. You have to prioritize your time. I have learned a lot of things from 4-H that can help me in the future.

Why should other kids join 4H?

Other kids should join 4-H because it has a lot to offer. You will learn how to care for and raise good livestock. You learn how to pick out animals that will do well in show. You also learn how to keep records. Another benefit to doing 4-H is learning how to write a good letter to a buyer so they will come and potentially buy your animal. In the end after you show and sell your animal you will have learned so many life lessons by doing 4-H from my personal experience it has been a great throughout my six years of 4-H. Now I have taken these lessons I have learned and put them to use in raising my own flock of sheep to sell to 4-H kids and give them an opportunity to participate in this amazing program. All in all 4-H will help you to become more knowledgeable and learn lessons to help you succeed in the future. I would say 4-H is 10 out of 10 one of the best ways to learn how to be responsible and a productive citizen in your community.

It is time for the Eastern Idaho State Fair! This year’s theme is “Eat it up.” The fair is a great time to meet with friends and see all the activities and events the Eastern Idaho State Fair brings to Idaho. I would like to invite you to support the youth by participating at the EISF Junior Market Livestock Sale on Friday, September 10th at 6:00 p.m. in the Beef Show Arena on the fairgrounds in Blackfoot (located near the Goddard Livestock Pavilion and the ice cream booth on the north end of the fairgrounds). Refreshments will be provided for the buyers.

I hope you can enjoy attending the fair and sale to see the successful livestock projects raised by youth throughout Southeastern Idaho. If you want to participate but can’t attend in-person you can bid by logging on to LiveAuctions.TV.

The youth who participate in 4-H and FFA are future leaders who will be able to give back to their communities. The investment you put into these youth at the market livestock sale will be a positive investment for the future. As a buyer you receive recognition online and in print media, a color photo of the youth and their animal to display, a tax-deductible donation and the knowledge that you have supported great young people from our area.

Here are some ways to buy:
Resale – Buyers not wanting to keep their purchased animal pay only the difference between the final bid price and the resale value listed in the program. The resale price is the value of the animal based on current livestock market prices. The floor buyer (packer) will take the animal and the successful bidder pays only the support amount. The floor price will be established before the sale and will be published in the sale program.

Home Use – You can purchase the entire animal for home use. You will pay the total sale price bid at the time of the sale. Simply indicate on the buyers slip where you want the animal to be processed. Bid price does not include processing fees.

Split Buying – Two or more individuals, families, businesses or organizations may wish to split the cost of the animal. This reduces the cost to any one person or group and reduces the amount of meat each will receive or price they wish to sponsor if they don’t want to the meat. Notify the auctioneer of the combination of bidders when you are the winning bidder.

Add-ons or boost – Give a set dollar amount. Decide how you want your gift distributed. Money goes directly to the youth.

"The 4-H program runs deep in the Double M history as we are all products of the program. We continue to support the youth involved in 4-H through the Market Sale because of the life lessons that raising animals teach them. They learn how to be responsible for the well being of an animal, work hard, manage money, endure hardship and challenges, as well as present themselves professionally as they exhibit and sell their project." - Double M Ag & Irrigation

Hadley wanted to share "4-H and FFA has taught me valuable lessons. Working all summer long to achieve goals takes hard work and a lot of patience. From training my lambs to feeding them every night and morning it takes a lot time. All the effort that goes into my projects to help me and my project be ready to walk in the ring makes it all worth it in the end. To be able to raise a market worthy animal is a great accomplishment. To those who buy market animals, Thank You. We appreciate your willingness to buy these quality animals."

When asked what 4-H has taught Zan, here's what was shared:

"4-H has taught me to work hard. 4-H keeps me active all summer long with the responsibility of caring for an animal, making sure it has food, water and shelter. I enjoy working with my steers and watching them grow. I am glad I participate in 4-H."
