Rescue needed ASAP!! VA, Powhatan “Stranger” deaf Australian shepherd
🚨 **RESCUE NEEDED – Deaf Double Merle Aussie (VA)** 🚨
SHARING FOR NETWORKING—PLEASE READ AND SHARE TO THE RIGHT PEOPLE
“Stranger” is an adult double merle Australian Shepherd currently at Powhatan Animal Control in Powhatan, VA and urgently needs a rescue plan in place. He is **deaf** and came in as a stray in very matted condition and extremely fearful. Shelter staff have since removed his mats and are working with him, but he remains very shut down.
The important part: **he has shown ZERO aggression**, even during grooming and handling.
Right now, Stranger is:
• Shy, shut down, and overwhelmed in the shelter
• Possibly head shy and unfamiliar with leash/harness
• Interested in people and other dogs, but too afraid to engage
• Eating well and appears physically healthy
📌 He is **currently on stray hold**, but I am trying to line up a rescue so he can leave as soon as he’s available.
Stranger needs a rescue experienced with **deaf dogs and/or herding breeds** that can give him the time, patience, and structure to decompress and learn to trust.
This is a dog who likely has so much potential once he’s out of the shelter environment. With the right support and training (including visual cues), he has a real chance to thrive.
**Please:**
• Tag rescues (especially Aussie/herding or special needs)
• Share with your networks
• Reach out if you can help
I am more than willing to **assist with pulling, transport, and coordination** to help make this happen.
