Ever heard someone say you should never mix raw and kibble? 🚫 They might claim digestion rates or stomach pH as reasons why it is somehow harmful or dangerous to do so.
However, this is a MYTH❗ Digestion isn't like a traffic jam 🚗 it can handle things that require different digestion rates. Plenty of things digest at different rates, including meat and bone! 🍖
Stomach pH also shouldn't be an issue. Although some claim raw can only be properly digested if the pH of the stomach is under 2 and kibble fed dogs have higher stomach pH, studies have demonstrated that even dogs fed only kibble have a pH of about 2 or less. Besides, gastric pH is not constant; it is always changing! 📈📉 For example, if a dog doesn't eat for 3 hours, the pH of the stomach changes.
The bottom line is, there is nothing inherent to all kibble or all raw foods that would rationalize a strict "do not feed together" rule. Thousands of raw feeders successfully feed partial raw diets every single day without issue. Here at RFC we do not discourage anyone from adding raw into the diet, even if it isn't the whole diet. ✔
