National Black Dog Day
We love black dogs! Their shiny coats are like satin, especially when you’re out playing in the warm sunshine. Unfortunately, too many black dogs languish in shelters because people are hesitant to adopt them. Today is the day to give black dogs the love they deserve!

Dogs in Politics Day
Democrats and Republicans may not see eye to eye on certain issues, but whether your preferred political party is symbolized by an elephant or a donkey we all share a love for ‘political animals,’ in particular the dogs who have held the position of First Fido over the years. Every year, Dogs in Politics Day celebrates these four-legged residents of the White House.

HOW TO CELEBRATE RESPONSIBLE DOG OWNERSHIP DAY
Refresh your pet-care basics
While you would not forget anything essential to your pet's care, it is always nice to have a reminder of important vaccinations, updates on new methods of grooming, etc.

Attend AKC's (or its affiliates') events
They host events for responsible dog ownership around the same time each year. If you cannot personally attend an event, you can check for virtual updates on the AKC page.

Watch a dog movie
Pick a canine-centered movie of your choice — maybe even the 2018 adventure film 'Alpha' that explores a theory about the very first dog-human partnership — grab the popcorn, and enjoy.

For many of us, pets are loved ones on scale with some of the most important people in our lives – when they often die before us, it’s not an easy loss. We’re not alone in remembering some of our favorite pets for the rest of our lives, and there are many ways of memorializing pets.

National Dog Day
Can you believe that our furry friends have been with us for at least 14,000 years? Thank goodness for that because what would we do without man’s best friend? It is time to pull out all the cake and pictures of your pup and share your love for them with the world!

Take Your Cat to the Vet Day
Routine examinations allow veterinarians to check for signs of illness. In cats, these can be subtle and easy to overlook. Your vet will also do a head-to-tail exam to look for changes or abnormalities. The earlier medical issues are discovered and addressed the better the outcome.
