https://linktr.ee/creatureconnectionsba Here at Creature Connections we offer a wide variety of services that involve all aspects of the animal kingdom. We offer Animal Training, Animal Enrichment Consultations, Animal Care Services, Animal Enclosure Design and Some Animal Nutrition Consultations. I am a Landscape Architect who has a passion for animal behavior and animal nut

rition. I attend as many animal behavior workshops I can to be the best animal behaviorist I can be. I am certified cpdt-ka and accredited iaabc-adt. I have experience training Parrots, Cats and Dogs, but I also have trained some small furry friends, such as guinea pigs, ferrets, rabbits, rats and the like. I am also passionate about enrichment and husbandry for our companion animals, production animals, and exotic animals. I work as a landscape architect and provide Landscape Architectural services for designing the ultimate animal enclosures which include aviaries (birds), apiaries (bees), dog play areas, catteries (cats), Horse farms, livestock farms, and ponds. I believe that all animals deserve respect and an understanding of the language that they use to communicate their needs, wants and desires. It is important to let the animal chose it's own course, and reinforce those choices, while we guide them in a direction of connecting with thier human caretakers. We all need to connect a little more with our creatures.

Roxy is working with on advancing her place skill!

Roxy is truly a super star and learns super fast. This was actually her very first day learning “place” and she is already able to perform the behavior with some additional duration AND distraction! 🤯

A few things to notice:
1) Shane’s demeanor and energy are calm and consistent.
2) Roxy is being reinforced every time Shane interacts with anything.

As Roxy improves, Shane will be able to add more variance to his demeanor, movements and the rate of reinforcement.

What else do you notice?

I’ve been saying this for years! Change proteins, change brands, add different types of toppers, especially meats, organs, veggies! Sensitivities can be created by monotony!
Concerned about your dogs diet? Reach out for a review!

A new peer-reviewed study published in the Journal of Animal Science found that nearly half of dog owners feed the exact same dog food every day, same brand, same flavor, little to no rotation. Researchers also found that protein source, especially chicken🐓, heavily influences purchasing decisions.

While consistency may help some sensitive dogs short term, long-term dietary monotony can reduce microbiome🦠 diversity and create a less resilient gut ecosystem over time. Different proteins, fibers, and plant compounds feed different beneficial bacteria, so repetitive diets may contribute to dysbiosis, weaker gut resilience, lower postbiotic production, and a greater risk of sensitivities and inflammatory issues.

The takeaway? Convenience and routine may come at the expense of microbiome diversity and long-term gut health.
If you cannot change your food, adding a variety of foods like veggies can also help nourish the microbiome by providing different types of fiber and plant compounds that feed beneficial gut bacteria. Probiotics as well can help support microbial diversity, strengthen the gut barrier, improve digestion, and increase resilience during stress, antibiotics, and dietary changes.

Great read! And so true! Too many variables to consider.

Great read! And so true! Too many variables to consider.

One of the things I cover in every initial consult is case outlook, and one of the biggest factors I consider has nothing to do with the dog.

It's client commitment.

Here's what I see over and over. The families who come in ready to do the work, who take notes, who ask follow-up questions and who start implementing right away - those families get better outcomes. It's not because their dogs are easier, or food motivated or smarter but because consistency and follow-through are what actually make progress.

I recently wrote about a seven-month-old puppy client presenting with resource guarding. I knew early on this case was going in a positive direction. The day after our consult, mom had already talked to the kids about respecting the puppy's body language. By day two, management and supervision were tightened up and training had started. I had an update and questions in my inbox.

That's what hitting the ground running looks like. And it matters enormously in case outcomes.

I can't predict how long behavior modification will take. I have no crystal ball. No ethical trainer can, because every dog learns differently and behavior is affected by so many variables: environment, medical history, genetics, reinforcement history, and more. What I can tell you is that the families who go all in consistently see the best results.

I don't have a magic wand. It doesn't exist but clients doing the work I outline does, and that's what makes or breaks a case.

The dogs at our Train & Play are loving the increase in outdoor activities that comes with warmer weather!

With lots of practice, they are able to stay engaged with their handlers even while the world is exciting with pedestrians, small critters, and smells and sounds everywhere!
