Sometimes the right decision is also the hardest one to make.
When I say I have agonized over this decision for months, I truly mean it. With a heavy heart, I want to share that Luna had her pre-operative appointment yesterday and is scheduled to be spayed on June 25th.
As an ethical breeder, I realistically only have about three heats remaining with her — roughly a year and a half. After a great deal of reflection, I’ve had to acknowledge that the demands and responsibilities in other areas of my life are unlikely to change enough within that timeframe to allow me to devote the level of time, energy, and hands-on care that for me is mandatory—not optional.
Anyone who knows me and my breeding program, understands that the health and safety of my dogs will always come first. I also firmly believe the individual love, attention, and early care each puppy receives here plays a tremendous role in shaping their future. If I cannot fully give them that for the next one or two heats, then allowing Luna to remain intact “just in case” is selfish and not at all in her best interest. As heartbreaking as this is, risking her health — especially the possibility of pyometra — is not something I am willing to do.
This is not the end for me, though. I absolutely intend to return to breeding when life allows me to do so in the way I believe is right and responsible. I truly love this with my whole heart!
Coheed will remain available for AI stud services, and I will still be here to support, encourage, and help however I can — whether your puppy came from me or elsewhere. And of course, I’ll continue sharing photos, videos, and updates on my pack along the way.
Thank you all for the love, support, and trust you’ve shown me and my babies over the years. It means more than I can ever properly express. ❤️
