Low-quality video, high-quality progress! ✨

When Legend first came to training, it took about an hour and a half to get him loaded onto the trailer. Once he arrived, his owner asked if we could work on trailer loading along with his riding training. My answer was an easy absolutely!

After a couple of dedicated loading sessions and consistent daily practice, look at him now! Walking on confidently, calmly, and with so much more understanding of the task.

This is why consistency matters. The goal isn’t to force a horse onto the trailer, it’s to build confidence so they can make the right choice on their own.

I’m incredibly proud of this handsome guy and all the progress he’s made. His owner has decided to keep him in training for another 30 days so we can continue building his confidence and get him more trail exposure before he heads home.

Stay tuned! I’ve got several training updates and a recap coming soon, and Legend will definitely be making a few more appearances!

Good training isn’t about forcing a horse to do something.

It’s about creating an environment where the horse understands the answer and feels confident enough to try.

That’s where real progress happens.

Getting Buttercup used to the flag!

She’s not so sure about it going near her face, which is completely normal. Horses are naturally cautious of things they can’t easily see or understand, especially when they move unpredictably like a flag does.

We’re taking our time and allowing her to work through it thoughtfully. The goal isn’t just for her to tolerate the flag, but for her to become confident enough to relax around it. Every time she chooses curiosity over concern, she’s building trust in both the process and herself.

My favorite part of working with young horses is watching them learn to think instead of react.

Pearl is learning some new tricks! ✨

One of the things Pearl’s owner wanted worked on during training was side passing in hand while still keeping her “step over to mount” cue clear and consistent. So, we’ve started introducing a separate cue system to help Pearl understand the difference.

When my hand is lower on her body, I’m asking her to step away laterally. When my hand is higher, it means step toward me for mounting. She’s already starting to sort it out and understand the difference between the two cues!

We’ll keep refining it while continuing to work toward her other training goals, but this is a great example of how important clear, direct, and consistent communication is with horses, both in hand and under saddle. Horses learn through repetition and clarity, and when the cues stay the same every time, they’re able to respond with confidence instead of confusion.

Pearl has been trying hard and making great progress every session, and it’s always rewarding to watch the pieces start to click together for them.

Lady’s owner came out to visit yesterday!

Lady’s training has been focused on building confidence and relaxation out on the trail, so of course we took the ride outside. She’s been making huge progress with leaving the barn and other horses without getting anxious, and learning that she can stay soft, calm, and connected even in new environments.

Yesterday was a great reminder that progress isn’t always about flashy maneuvers or arena work. Sometimes it’s about helping a horse feel safe, confident, and willing wherever you take them. Lady is really starting to settle into herself, and it’s been so rewarding to watch her confidence grow with each ride.

Buttercup is absolutely thriving in her baby boot camp! ✨

This video shows Buttercup’s very first time being saddled, and she handled it like an absolute rockstar. No bucking, no bolting, no panic, just quiet acceptance and a willing attitude. While I always prepare for the possibility of a big reaction when a horse first feels a cinch, moments like this are such a rewarding reminder of the value of good preparation and a solid mind. Buttercup has an incredible brain, and she’s going to make someone an amazing partner someday.

A few important things to note when first saddling a young horse:
✨ Don’t sneak the saddle on. Let them see it, hear it, and feel it. If you quietly “sneak” it onto their back, they may tolerate it at first, but panic once they suddenly realize it’s there. Saddle them confidently and normally, just like you would your seasoned, bombproof gelding.
✨ Pull the cinch up gradually a few times before tightening it fully. Give them time to process the pressure. If they react, wait for relaxation before continuing.
✨ When tightening the cinch, make it snug enough that the saddle stays secure, but don’t overtighten. The goal is for them to experience the pressure and weight without feeling trapped or uncomfortable.
✨ And most importantly: safety first. Even the quietest horses can have unexpected reactions during first saddling, so always stay aware and be prepared to move if needed.

Buttercup won’t be getting her first ride for quite a while yet, but introducing the equipment now helps build confidence and understanding long before that day comes. Setting them up mentally in these early stages makes such a difference later on.

Stay tuned for more updates on Buttercup and the rest of the crew!

ONE training opening left for June! 🐴✨

ARC Performance Horses LLC has just one boarded training opening remaining for June! This training spot could include:

✨ C**t starts (60 day minimum)
✨ Tune ups
✨ Problem horses
✨ Trail riding
✨ Desensitization
✨ And more!

Located in Morley, MI, ARC Performance Horses encourages owners to be involved in their horse’s journey by offering lessons and allowing session viewing throughout training. Horses are worked with 5 days a week, and owners receive weekly updates on their horse’s progress.

My program emphasizes building a relationship, communication, and understanding between horse and rider. There is no “cookie cutter” approach here; every horse is evaluated as an individual and given the program they need to succeed while working toward their owner’s personal goals.

Whether your horse needs a solid foundation, more confidence, a restart, or help working through specific issues, my goal is to create a softer, more willing, and dependable partner both in and out of the arena.

Message the page to claim the last June opening or ask any questions!

This is what it’s all about. ❤️

Today, Legend’s owner got to ride him for the very first time.

She has owned Legend for 9 years, but due to injuries, timing, and life circumstances, he had never been started under saddle. After giving him a green start at home this past fall and spending the last 20 days here in boarded training, today was finally the day everything came together.

Watching her ride him around for the first time was such a special moment. Moments like these are the reason I love what I do. It’s never just about training horses, it’s about helping people build confidence, create partnerships, and experience things with their horses they may have once thought would never happen.

I’m incredibly proud of both of them and excited to see where their journey goes from here.

Today, we remember the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend, it’s a time to honor the courage, service, and lives given in defense of our freedoms. As we spend time with family, friends, and the horses we love, may we also take a moment to reflect on those who never made it home and the families who carry that loss every day.

Thank you to the fallen heroes who gave everything. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten. ❤️🤍💙
