❄Winter is here, and while we may bundle up and enjoy the cold season with cozy nights inside, our pets rely on us to help protect them from the unique challenges chilly weather brings. From freezing temperatures to hazardous sidewalk chemicals, winter can be tough on our furry family members. A little extra awareness keeps them safe and ready to enjoy the season right alongside us.
**Pay Attention to the Temperature
If it’s too cold for you to be outside without a jacket, it’s too cold for your pets too. Short-haired breeds, senior pets, and those with medical conditions can become chilled faster than many owners realize. Limit time outdoors during freezing weather, especially for early-morning and nighttime walks. Even quick potty breaks can be risky when the ground is icy. A warm jacket or sweater helps maintain body heat while also looking adorable — and yes, even big dogs can benefit!

Watch for frostbite and hypothermia signs:
• Persistent shivering
• Pale or cold paws, ears, or tail
• Weakness or slowed movement
• Whining or anxious behavior outdoors
• Skin that feels hard or cool to the touch

Protect Their Paws!
Sidewalk salt, snow, and ice can irritate paw pads or even cause burns. After walks, wipe paws to remove ice melt or chemicals they might lick. Snow can also pack between paw pads and lead to cuts or discomfort. Pet-safe balms or boots are a great barrier and keep feet warm, too — plus, they add style points on those winter outings.

Pet Safety is Vital!
Stay warm out there!🐾♥

To Our Mountain View Animal Hospital Family,
You may have noticed changes to our hours and availability recently, and we’ve seen your comments and concerns. We want you to know: we hear you, and we care. ❤️
Like many clinics across the country, we’re facing a real veterinarian shortage. National studies now predict that the U.S. could be short up to 24,000 companion-animal veterinarians by 2030, even after counting all the new grads coming out of vet school. At the same time, there are more pets in families than ever before.
Recently, we lost our second veterinarian, which means Mountain View is currently down to one doctor, Dr. DeLandtsheer. As much as we wish we could be open all the time, it simply isn’t safe or sustainable to run full hours with one vet. That’s why we’ve had to close on weekends and limit the number of appointments we schedule. These decisions are about protecting your pets and protecting the people who care for them, not about convenience.
We are actively searching for another veterinarian to join our team, but hiring in a small town like Big Bear Lake takes time—especially in the middle of a nationwide shortage.
In the meantime, here’s how you can help us help you:
• Please book routine care early so we can plan ahead.
• Be patient if we can’t fit you in immediately—we truly wish we could.
• Treat our staff with kindness; they’re doing their best in a very tough environment.
We love this community, and we’re grateful for every client who chooses to trust us with their pets. Your support means more than you know as we work through this season and build back to a stronger, fully staffed Mountain View Animal Hospital. 💙🐾
If you have questions about our hours, scheduling, or emergency options, please call us at 909-505-2802. We’re here to talk.

Dear Mountain View Animal Hospital Family,

We have an important update to share with you regarding our hospital’s hours of operations. Beginning November 24th, we will no longer be open on the weekends. Moving forward, Dr. Delandtsheer will be going to a weekday-only schedule, with all appointments being scheduled Monday - Friday from 8am to 5pm.

These changes will help ensure that Mountain View Animal Hospital continues to deliver the absolute highest level of pet care, along with the most consistent communications possible, regardless of the time or the day.

Like most of you, Dr. Delandtsheer dreams of our hospital providing care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And in time, with the right additions to our longtime dedicated staff, we intend to make that happen. Meanwhile, we hope you can understand how important it is for many of our team members to finally have a couple days off to fully enjoy family, friends, and all that our amazing community has to offer.

To book an appointment, please call us at 909-505-2802 or email us at [email protected]. We truly appreciate all of your continued trust and support, thank you!

Warmly,
The Team at Mountain View Animal Hospital

🎉 Pet Adoption Event THIS SATURDAY at Big Bear Animal Shelter! 🐾

We’re thrilled to support pet adoption in our community! This Saturday, June 7th 10am - 5pm, come out to Big Bear Animal Shelter for their special adoption event in honor of California Adopt-A-Pet Day— and bring home a new furry friend.
FOR FREE!!🐶🐱

To celebrate, Mountain View Animal Hospital is offering a FREE first veterinary exam (valued at $85) to any family who adopts a pet that day! 💛

📍 Where: Big Bear Animal Shelter located at 42080 Northshore Rd, Big Bear City
📅 When: Saturday, June 7 from 10am - 5pm
🎁 What: Free adoptions and Free vet exams for every adoption!

Let’s help these sweet pets find their forever homes — and give them the healthy start (or restart) they deserve!🐾✨

*The nitty gritty: one free 30-minute exam for all pets adopted from the Big Bear Shelter this Saturday, the exam must be scheduled and completed within 10 days of the adoption, so by June 17th, it's for the adoptive family only, not transferable, and it's one free exam per family.
