Happy 3rd birthday to Lilo! She is growing into a beautiful girl and I can’t wait for our many adventures to come. Her training is slow going due to my own health issues and restrictions as I get healthy again but Lilo is incredibly smart and so fun to work with. Happy birthday beautiful girl ❤️

Hey all, Has anybody seen a miniature horse? He’s brown and has a green blanket on that has hedgehogs. He got out from our property in big arm around 9pm yesterday night. The Sheriff’s office got a call that he was in the highway but we have been unable to find him since. If anybody knows anything or has seen him please let me know.

Saturday we added a new member to the New Horizons team! Meet Venus! She is a 2 year old reservation mustang that came from a kill pen after coming off the reservation, then a fellow trainer, Melody at Second Chance Training, took her in and started her basic work. Venus is very shy with new people but has a sensitive and kind soul and we are making good progress on being able to walk up, touch, and halter her, and she’s settling in well with her new family. Venus is a project and will be available for a new loving home once she has had training and is comfortable being in society!

Meet Gracie and Monet! I’m getting these two back in riding condition and helping them be a little more relaxed after they’ve been sitting for around 5 years.
Gracie is a grey Arabian cross with unknown history and training record. She has a very sweet, intelligent mind and is picking things up so fast, but because we don’t know her training history I am taking things slow with her. Our last session I decided to play with a little bit of liberty work. She enjoyed it a lot and did very well with it - we also got a lot of licking and chewing. Liberty work is a great way to create a connection and trust between you and the horse while also using less tools, and is also a great confidence builder for the horse.
Monet is a sorrel Arabian, who does have previous training and was used in endurance races. Monet struggles with respecting my space and tends to try to strike out especially when working in his right side. I am focusing on being able to move his forehand and hind end with little pressure. Being able to move his front and hind end independently helps teach him that he needs to respect my space by providing a safety factor of knowing I can easily move any body part that gets too close to me.
Both horses have made amazing progress in just the two sessions we have done and I’m very excited to continue working with them!

Another round of successful lessons in the books for this young girl. I am beyond impressed with how well she is soaking in everything we talk about and do! We switched things up this time and used Paige, another mare that this family owns, rather than my previously owned mare, Dallas, who still hung out with us. At New Horizons Horsemanship, I believe it is very beneficial to ride with as many different horses as possible, every horse that you are around will teach you something different and help you be versatile. I am excited for our next lesson! I have openings for lessons and training! If you are interested or have any questions feel free to message, call, or text Alyssa at (406) 309-4869

New Horizon Horsemanship’s first lesson was a success! This is Dallas, previously a personal horse of mine, and her new owners are taking lessons. Here’s a sneak peak on some things we can work on with you and your horse! These gals worked on being soft as well as the horse being soft and responsive, basic ground work of sending out, disengaging the hind end, and a little bit of forehand movement. We also worked on focusing on riding with your seat and being aware of where your legs are and how much you can actually ask of your horse off just your legs and seat. All three girls did very well and were very eager to learn despite a new situation and new people. I am very excited for our next session and to watch these girls continue to grow. I enjoy sharing the knowledge I’ve learned and helping further my clients’ horsemanship skills. I do have more openings for lessons for you and your horse as well as openings for training! If you are interested or have any questions please message me or call or text at (406) 309-4869

A little about me! I have been riding horses and taking care of them since before I could walk. My goal at New Horizons is to offer a new beginning and a new view of horsemanship to my lesson clients and horses. Working with horses is a passion of mine and I am very excited to be able to offer my services.
I earned a Natural Horsemanship degree with minors in instruction and management from The University of Montana Western in Dillon, MT. I also have degrees in Zoology and Animal Husbandry from Pikes Peak Community College, and I have many years of vet tech experience. I interned with Cory Furlong from RCR Horsemanship in Bozeman, MT, training and teaching basic liberty. I have competed in trail challenges and the Extreme Cowboy Association, I was a part of the Pikes Peak Rangerettes Drill team in Colorado for 3 years and competed with the Kalispell Trail Blazers drill team for 2 years and still work with them today. I’m so excited to share my experience and expertise with you all!
