This sweet girl boarded with us for the first time last fall, and was very shy. After one of our employees picked her up the first time she got so nervous, she bit out of fear. We didn’t expect that reaction and felt so bad that she was so afraid😕. We then decided a bottom kennel was the right choice for her, so she could easily come in and out on her own without being touched. Last week she decided to give us another chance and boarded for spring break. We made sure to assign her a bottom kennel again. Upon drop off her family asked if we could try doing a bath and nail trim on her. We made no promises since she did bite one of us last board, but said we would give it a try. We had the same staff member work with her all week so she could slowly warm up to her. She saw the other little ones run and jump on her for love and cuddles and we could tell she really wanted the same, but was still too shy to come close. By Thursday afternoon though, she finally let us in and allowed for a few quick pets. Then on Friday we sat out in the yard with them, and let all the little take turns jumping in our lap. The next thing we know sweet little Addie jumped up for lovins too. After several back and head scratches we decided to give her another chance and try to pick her up AND….. she did just fine. 😃
We walked around with her for a bit then took her to the bathing room. We took things SUPER slow, and first let her have a look at the tub. Then we set her down in the tub and let her sniff around. Once she checked things out and seemed to be calm, we turned the water on and sprayed it away from her. Shortly after she became okay with the water, so we began spraying her down. She did FANTASTIC! We gave her lots of love and praise, and then she even let us cut her nails with no issues! Our staff at Furry Paws are committed to doing our very best to make sure that all our furry friends are comfortable while in our care-even those that might be a little afraid. After all, everyone deserves a second chance, and we sure hope to see her again in the future. 😊
