We had SO much fun at camp this week with new and returning friends!
Campers worked on riding skills including safely mounting and dismounting, stopping, steering through a variety of obstacles, posting, and two point. We took a mid week ba****ck ride and talked about feeling the horses steps and how the horses legs moved at different gaits. They even got to create their own obstacle course showcasing these skills, and ride through it on their favorite horse or pony!
We watched several great educational demos, including a natural horsemanship/ground work demonstration, learned about hoof trimming and hoof health with Blaine Orris, saw a horse get a check up and their teeth cared for with Dr Emma Bronder, and got to meet a local author and listen to one of the books in the Lady Thistle children’s book series. Some of older riders showed our campers their jumping skills too!
Campers cared for a horse or pony throughout the week, learning how to feed them, groom them, clean their stall, and keep their water buckets clean. We also learned all about reading equine body language, common ailments and how to recognize them, and all about the different equipment we use!
And of course, we did lots of great crafts to take home and enjoy. For the barn, we created a special set of jump standards with our campers handprints to remember our awesome week here at Hunter Spring Farm!
Thanks for camping with us! While our remaining summer sessions are FULL, get in touch with us to talk about fall schedule lessons and be on the look out for our fall and winter camps!
Thanks to all of our camp helpers who made this great week possible - Dana, Cheri, Kathy, Kiera, Chloe, and Ryley!
