So very true
Sometimes “They did great” isn’t the kindest answer.
When a client asks how their dog did during grooming, it can be tempting to keep things, simple and positive. But when a dog struggled with fear, stress, handling, over certain parts of the groom, sharing that information honestly can be one of the most helpful things we can do.
This isn’t about labeling a dog as “bad.” it’s about helping owners understand their dogs experience.
Many grooming challenges can improve when groomers and owners work together. Maybe the dog needs more positive exposure to grooming. Maybe a different handling approach would help. Maybe the owner can practice at home. In some cases, a conversation with their veterinarian about anxiety support may be appropriate.
When we communicate openly, we give dogs a better chance to succeed in the future.
the goal isn’t a perfect report card. The goal is helping dogs feel safer, more comfortable, and more confident during grooming.
From one groomer to another: honest conversations often lead to the biggest breakthroughs.
