Last evening, I was fortunate enough to be asked by a local 4-H group to come speak about taxidermy. Now you might be thinking why 4-H be interested in taxidermy? Well, they are introducing a new project to our county called Hunting Skills, how cool?! I was able to go teach to a wonderful group about my passion. After I spoke about what I do and tips on how to make taxidermists' jobs easier with proper field care, we did a fish painting project with blow pens! Anyone who doesn’t know what blow pens are, they essentially are manual air brushes. 👄💨 It was quite comical to watch!

This was my Pa show piece. This customer didn't even hesitate when I asked if I could take some extra time on his deer to compete and I'm so grateful for that. The mass and uniqueness on this deer is unmatched.

The best taxidermists out there are constantly LEARNING. These pictures may not mean a lot to you but are key take aways from the Pennsylvania state show. These shows are truly priceless and the best thing I have done to improve. From taking a customer piece for a critique, attending as many seminars as I can, to sitting front row and asking SO MANY questions. This is how you learn to be better and take your work from okay to excellent. I’m not perfect and never will be but I will forever be eager for the knowledge to keep improving my work. Thank you to all my mentors and those of you who have taken time to teach and answer all of my questions!! Here’s to continuing to pursue excellence!

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
-Romans 6:23

Scripture is straightforward about it. Sin has a cost. But there is great news, that's not where this verse ends. The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ. Not something you earn or work your way up to. Just given, freely, to anyone who accepts Christ into their heart.

As turkey season kicks off around the country over the next couple of weeks, this is a great verse to sit with while you're waiting on that gobbler to show. Out there in the stillness of the morning, let it sink in. God sent his son to die on the cross for our sins. We are not worthy of that gift, but he gave it anyway. The ways of this world end in death, but accepting God as your savior promises something this world never could. Eternal life.

Prayer:
Lord, thank you for a gift we could never deserve and could never earn. As we head into the woods this season, remind us of what really matters. May those quiet mornings point us back to you and the grace you so freely gave. Amen.

“For we live by faith, not by sight.”
-2 Corinthians 5:7

Faith is knowing. It’s confidence in God that doesn't depend on seeing every step in front of you. We don't need all the answers laid out because we trust the one who holds them.

Think about an early morning walk to your stand. It's still dark, the light hasn't fully broken through, and you're picking your steps carefully. You can't see far, but. you know where you're headed.

That's the picture here. Life will have stretches where things aren't clear and the path feels uncertain. But faith gives you something sight never could, a deep confidence that you're not walking alone and that where you're headed is worth every step.

Prayer:
Lord, help me trust you even when I can’t see what’s ahead. Teach me to walk by faith and keep my steps steady in you. Amen.

This verse is a strong reminder of something we all need to remember. The reality is, we are all lost apart from God. All of us have fallen short of the glory and grace of God.

If you’ve ever been turned around in the woods, you know how quickly things can change. One wrong step, and before long you’re not as sure of your path as you thought you were. Life can be the same way. We wander, get off course, and sometimes don’t even realize how far we’ve drifted.

That’s why God sent his Son to earth, because humanity was lost. We couldn’t save ourselves or find our own way back. Jesus came to save us from our sins and bring us back to him.

Prayer:
Lord, thank you for coming after us when we were lost. Thank you for your patience and mercy that never gives up. Help us stay close to you and never take your grace for granted. Amen.
