With warmer weather approaching, the season of celebrations, and the loud fireworks that come with them, is just around the corner. If your pet becomes frightened or anxious during these festivities, KBAH is here to help you prepare before the noise begins. Please reach out to us this month so we can discuss safety strategies and medication options tailored to your pet's needs. Waiting until the last minute can make it difficult to ensure your pet has the support they require.

For your convenience, you can easily request a consultation through the Otto app, order recommended calming supplies from our online store, or give us a call at 860-828-7736.

June is Adopt a Cat Month! If you are considering adding a feline member to your family, we encourage you to visit your local animal shelter or rescue organization. These organizations are filled with wonderful companions of all ages and personalities waiting for a second chance. 🐱

While the homecoming process is an exciting milestone, the most critical first step for any newly adopted cat is a comprehensive veterinary evaluation. Establishing a medical baseline immediately ensures your new companion starts their journey in optimal health. A professional wellness exam allows us to perform a thorough physical assessment to detect underlying conditions, such as dental disease, cardiac irregularities, or internal parasites, that may not be immediately apparent to a new owner.

In addition to a physical assessment, these initial visits are vital for implementing tailored preventative care. We work with you to customize vaccination schedules and parasite prevention protocols based on your cat’s specific lifestyle and risk factors. Early diagnostic screenings, including feline leukemia (FeLV) and FIV testing, provide a health map that allows for proactive monitoring as your pet matures. Beyond clinical diagnostics, we provide professional guidance on nutrition and environmental enrichment, ensuring your cat remains physically healthy and mentally stimulated for years to come.

If you are welcoming a new feline friend this month, contact us to schedule their inaugural wellness visit. We look forward to partnering with you to provide the highest standard of care for the newest member of your family.

Trivia Tuesday Rabbit Edition Correct Answer🐇:

The correct answer is D) 80%.

It is a startling statistic, but understanding what this means is one of the best ways to protect your rabbit.

🩺 What Exactly Is Adenocarcinoma?
Adenocarcinoma is a type of cancer that arises from glandular cells. These are the specialized cells in the body responsible for secreting substances like hormones and fluids. In a female rabbit, this cancer develops in the lining of the uterus. Because this tissue is highly active, these cells can mutate and grow uncontrollably, forming tumors that can invade nearby healthy tissue.

Because the risk of uterine cancer climbs so significantly as female rabbits mature, reaching that staggering 80% mark by age four, our team at Kensington Bird and Animal Hospital emphasizes the following:
✔️ Spaying your female rabbit at a young age is the most effective way to eliminate the risk of uterine adenocarcinoma entirely, as it removes the reproductive tissue where these tumors originate.

✔️Routine Wellness Exams: Even if your rabbit seems perfectly healthy, age is the most significant risk factor for this condition. Regular check-ups allow us to monitor your rabbit’s health, discuss preventative care, and address any concerns before they become life-threatening.

Is your rabbit due for a check-up? We are here to partner with you to help your rabbit live a long, happy, and cancer-free life! Give us a call or visit our website to schedule your appointment today.

We know what’s on their medical records... but what do you actually call them? 🤨

In our computer system, they might be "Bella," "Oliver," or "Charlie." But we have a feeling that when you’re at home, their "government name" rarely gets used!

We’re looking for the weirdest, funniest, most "why-do-I-call-them-that" nicknames. Are you currently living with:

The Judgmental Loaf 🍞🐱
The Wiggle-Butt Express 🚂🐶
Lieutenant Screams-a-Lot 🦜
Lord of the Sky-Raisins (a.k.a. the fly catcher) 🪰🦎
The Sentient Toaster Strudel 🐹
Sir Hiss-tory Channel 🐍
The Trash Goblin 🗑️

Drop your pet’s most unhinged nickname in the comments below!

Happy world parrot day 🦜

Parrots are among the most intelligent and complex creatures on the planet, and they deserve our protection both in the wild and in our homes. Today was founded to highlight the threats that birds face in the wild, from habitat loss to the illegal wildlife trade, and to promote the vital conservation efforts working to protect them.

We are lucky that CT has dedicated groups such as Connecticut Parrot Rescue and the Connecticut Parrot Society, who work hard to protect parrots in our community by providing education, adoption, and foster programs.

Let's work together to protect these incredible birds 🦜
