If Ranch Riding had a theme song, it would have to be Dan Roberts’s song “There’s A Little Cowboy in All of Us.” Its lyrics, of holding up independence, honesty and tradition and emanating the spirit of the American West hearken to the most desirable qualities in a Ranch Riding run: an honest horse willing to work hard in the tradition of the American cowboy and his work on the ranch.

Though many reasons exist for the class’s popularity, one of them is that, like Trail, it’s an equalizer: one element doesn’t make or break the class.

As an avid Laura Ingalls Wilder fan, I have always enjoyed her inclusion of her love of horses in her stories. 

In the book "Farmer Boy" we read about the Morgan Horse. Almanzo family, particularly his father was a high-quality breeder of this horse.

What exactly is a Morgan Horse? According to Wikipedia it is the following:

The Morgan horse is one of the earliest horse breeds developed in the United States.

The Morgan is a compact, refined breed, generally bay, black or chestnut in color, although they come in many colors, including several variations of pinto.
The Morgan breed is known for its versatility and is used for a number of English and Western events.
They have been successfully shown in many disciplines, including dressage, show jumping, Western pleasure, cutting and endurance riding. They are also used as stock horses and for pleasure riding and driving. They are frequently seen in driving competitions, including combined driving and carriage driving.

Have you ever seen a Morgan horse? After reading about this breed, it's no wonder they were such a high commodity and prized possession of the Wilder family.
