My dearest Sadie,

You came into my life for far too short a time, yet you filled it with a lifetime of love. You were my shadow, my adventure buddy, my joy in every walk, paddleboard ride, swim, errand, road trip and quiet days in the garden. My heart aches for you every moment. Doug and I miss you beyond words, but we find comfort believing you’re running free in heaven. Thank you for loving me so completely. Until we meet again, you will always be my sweet girl.

Keep this in mind if you have a Bernadoodle like Sadie.

There is a huge difference in her walking performance based on the temperature.

Poodles generally handle the heat better than Bernedoodles.

Poodles have a single, hair-like coat that is highly adaptable when trimmed.

Bernedoodles inherit a thick double coat from their Bernese Mountain Dog parent, which acts as a heavy insulator and traps body heat dangerously in warm weather.

Heat Tolerance BreakdownPoodles: They tolerate mild to warm weather comfortably as long as they are well-groomed with a short summer cut. However, they are still prone to overheating in high humidity or temperatures above $80°F to $85°F.

Bernedoodles: Bernese Mountain Dogs were bred for cold, snowy climates. Consequently, Bernedoodles often struggle in temperatures above $70°F. On the popular forum Reddit, users express a consensus that Bernedoodles are high-maintenance in the heat and are highly prone to heat exhaustion.

Sadie passed another milestone! This was her first time being on a leash at the pickleball courts.

She did what she is trained to do, which is watch me. She didn’t bark, wine or pace.

She simply laid down in the shade and watch. She got water breaks when we took breaks and then just continued to watch.

My mom’s grooming keeps getting better and better. 👩

She got a pair of scissors called “Chunkers” and they basically thinned out my hair.

I feel so much cooler and look how shiny my coat is 🧥.

I also dry much faster because you know my mom, I have an active lifestyle and a lot of it involves water.

Oh, btw, check out my new floating raft for the swim spa 🥰.

Ok, I don’t have a picture of Sadie on the paddle board because I was afraid we’d tip and my phone would sink 😆.

Then I remembered I have a water proof case from my trip to San Juan but we were already on the water. 💦

Garmin didn’t have a kayak or paddle board setting to when we turned around I entered it as an open water swim so this is 1/2 our journey.

She did great. She stood 🐕‍🦺, she laid down. She moved from front to back and jumped in the water when we were almost to our beach 🏖️.

So fun having a medical alert dog that I can take anywhere so that I don’t have to limit myself or my activities 🥰.

Just so you know, noise doesn’t really bother me anymore. This is me just chilling on the dock as my dad is driving the boat 🛥️ on the lift.

P.S. it’s noisy when he does that.

I start my bombproof class on Friday, as I said before, I should crush it.

My mom had her friends over for the weekend so I got to spend a lot of time playing ❤️.

Ok, my mom wrote the last post so now I can say that trail walks are the best!

I enjoyed every minute of it. I am so serious about my training because I know that if someday I have to help my mom, I’ll be ready.

I am so excited that Sadie was ready to start her trail training!

🐶 She needed to be steady on trails and rocks (I made sure her feet were shaven so no hair was around her pads)

🐶 She needed to listen to every command.

🐶 She needed to see other animals and not reacte. First experience with deer today 🦌

🐶 She needed to be able to stay in front of me and walk at the same pace.

🐾 Sniffing is good, she has to recognize the trail. She led me back the same way we went in.

Ultimate goal: 9 mile loop in my favorite park.

Today was 1.65 miles in 53 minutes.
