🎃🐾 Halloween Warning: Keep Your Pets Safe from Xylitol! 🐾🎃

Halloween treats aren’t just for humans — some candy can be extremely dangerous for your furry friends. Xylitol, a common sugar substitute in sugar-free candy, gum, and baked goods, is toxic to dogs and cats.

Why it’s dangerous:
• Rapid drop in blood sugar → weakness, seizures, or loss of consciousness
• Can lead to liver failure

Common Halloween culprits:
• Sugar-free candy and gum
• Sugar-free chocolate or baked goods
• Some sugar-free peanut butters used for treats

Keep your pets safe:
• Always read labels for xylitol
• Keep all candy out of reach
• If ingestion occurs, call your vet or emergency clinic immediately

🐾🎉 What a PAWSOME time we had at the Bella Vista Animal Shelter’s 20th Annual Wiener or Corgi Takes All Races! 🐾

We loved seeing so many adorable pups and their owners stop by our booth — your smiles (and wagging tails!) truly made our day. 🐶💛

A special shoutout to some of our sweet visitors — Bruno, Jackie, Finn, Bodie, Marley, Margo, Bean, Bella & Nacho, Hendrix, Stormie, Ellie, Sadie & Sam, and Oliver — you all stole our hearts!

Some of our furry friends even tried to share their treats, but don’t worry — we had plenty of pup cups to go around! 🐾🍦

The Saint Bernard is a breed of very large working dog from the Western Alps in Italy and Switzerland. They were originally bred for rescue work by the hospice of the Great St Bernard Pass on the Italian-Swiss border. The hospice, built by and named after the Alpine monk Saint Bernard of Menthon, acquired its first dogs between 1660 and 1670. The breed has become famous through tales of Alpine rescues, as well as for its large size and gentle temperament.
St. Bernards are no longer used for Alpine rescues, the last recorded instance of which was in 1955.
