What a team !! K9 Radar was a super star today !! We didn't have much to go on because Buff the kitty hasn't been seen in two weeks but we knew we could do a grid search to see if either he or K9 Ru picked up any air scent. They both did and even found some ground scent pockets under protected areas like bushes and a shed. Of course we don't know how old this scent was but it sure looks like Buff is still in the area. Lots of people feeding cats in the area too and we're hoping he shows up at someone's feeding station. Many thanks to my hubby, Ron Jones who is the only one who can go the distance with Radar. They put in over 3 miles today ❤️. Of course it wouldn't be complete without the ultra animal lover, Dawn Meier putting out her cameras to help. We love her !! There's also a stray that fights with Buff. We might try to trap him to see if that brings Buff home. Felicia with the cats voice WV has agreed to keep him for a few days to see if that helps. If you don't follow her rescue, please check them out !! She always jumps in to lend a hand when she's able ❤️

Off to see if we can find anything on a lost kitty who hasn't been seen for a bit. Her eyes are getting a little cloudy but there's nothing wrong with that nose !! She still gets just as excited to go to work and of course, young buck Radar will be there to do the leg work 😊 go team !!

Story time !! It's been awhile but we're not tracking full time these days. It's a good story though. Misty the kitty got out. Well, the funny part is, I met Misty's mom on a track for another lost kitty in the same area AND the incredible Robin Ellis Richey We've all been friends since. That was probably 5-ish years ago. When Misty escaped, we took Ru and Radar out to track. Ru can't go quite as far these days but still loves to go to work. Radar went to sniff the area she was last seen, I took Ru to check the storm drains but all of a sudden, she got a whiff and down went that nose. Looks like Misty had crossed a semi busy road. Along comes Ron and Radar so we sent them across the road and within a short distance his nose picked up her track. We knew she was still close. In comes the equally incredible Dawn Meier with live cameras which she set up at a few feed stations. We kept getting pics but ultimately, after some excitement around week 3, trapped Misty's doppelganger 😞. Misty has a unique feature though so we knew it was her on camera. My friends daughter was manning the feed stations, running out at all hours to refresh stations and release wildlife and never gave up. Finally, Robin decided to try the drop trap and within a short time, Misty was finally caught !! She's a little roughed up from her almost 5 week adventure and will be seeing her vet this morning. We're so very happy she's finally home and we're so lucky to have friends who gave not only their expertise but countless hours and sleepless nights to get her home !! We played a very small part in this one, all the kudos go to Misty's mom, daughter, Robin and Dawn. A job well done, my buds ❤️❤️❤️ welcome home Misty !!

Renewed my business license today. We're still working on Radar's training. He's doing great !! We recently tracked a lost kitty. Ru pointed the way and Radar found the hot spot where she's been seen on camera but unfortunately not trapped yet. Here's the end of a 3/4 mile track. Ru and I tried to throw him a loop by going off trail and through the woods. I was watching them on gps and he made that critical turn like a champ. You can hear Ru whining. She does NOT like being the hider and not the finder haha !!

It's been awhile and yes we're still retired but it's story time !! I know you all missed it haha.
There's always a plan, a method and it varies by the dog but mostly, the method stays the same.
K9 Ru and Radar tracked a lost doggie in our town after the ice storm. We knew it would be hard to find ground scent and air scenting can be more difficult but they did indeed find some ground scent. Ru found a spot she had laid in and Radar found a whole bunch of ground scent where she was ultimately found but... back to the method. First we track, then we attack with flyers and posters and let me tell you, Coco's mom was a trackers dream. She didn't miss a thing. Gave them to pizza places, UPS, FedEx, even the garbage men and it paid off !! The UPS driver was the one to see her and help get her home. We were just readying for a massive volunteer ground search when we got the news. There is always the method and a plan. There are a lot of people out there who may not have tracking dogs but are still experts at helping you locate and trap a lost pet, too. Listen to those people and follow the plan !! Big congrats to Rosa and Coco for a happy reunion and a big shout out to my friend Tina Miller who did so, so much to help me and Coco's mom, Rosa. She's good peeps to have on your side if you're missing a furkid ❤️

Handing out flyers to UPS ( among others ) really does work. Coco is HOME !!!
Not back by any stretch but helping out a local lady with a lost sharpei in Front Royal. K9 Ru got so excited to go to work. We didn't go too far but little man Radar did all the long distance tracking today with dad. He rocked it !! Found some ground scent which was a nice surprise after all that ice and a direction from air scent. The hunt is on !!

K9 Ru's trainer and the reason we got started in tracking.

Today we lost the greatest S&R dog for lost pets to grace this earth. He was a hero to so many, including myself. He helped find so very many lost pets and was an ambassador and teacher for those of us who followed in his big 'ol pawprints. Our wish is that you're running pain free, every creek and pond is yours and there's a never ending supply of your favorite donuts !! There is a different bond with a working dog, you communicate, you're more than human and dog. You are a machine working in sync with each other. He is not a pet but a valued partner in all things. Our hearts go out to Felicia and her family during this incredibly heartbreaking time. Please offer your condolences and stories so we can remember this true hero. Rest easy K9 Riley. Forever and ever in our hearts ❤️ We love you, Lisa and your buddy, K9 Ru 🫂❤️

Good morning friends. Although we're not tracking right now, it's July the 5th and we've seen all the missing dog posts. I thought I'd use this opportunity to tell you about martingale collars, if you didn't know. A martingale collar has adjustable clips on it that can tighten up enough to stop your dog from being able to pull out of it without totally choking a panicking dog and doing a lot of damage. Originally designed for dogs with thick necks and tiny heads like whippets, they work on every dog. Even the most calm of dogs can be put in a panic situation like a car that backfires, a falling tree or any loud noise. Here is K9 Radar's collar relaxed and closed. You can see how the clips stop the collar from over-tightening. Take care everyone ❤️

Giving it one more good try. Covid has really hurt us so...If you hike around the area and would care to "get lost" for my dogs training, let me know. I can't pay you but this guy will hopefully be our next search dog for lost pets in our area. All we'd need is your scent ( yesterday's socks ) and for you to hide somewhere along a trail. Decided to get back on Radar's training. Not totally starting from scratch because I know he's a good tracker but putting him through a refresher course. I need more time with him to learn what he's trying to communicate to me. Today he tracked our good friend Sonya Henry. Wasn't a long track but important because her scent was everywhere on the property so this was a test for picking up the freshest tracks. He started out going the right direction, spent some time where she had been before and was interested but not intense about it. Once he found her newest track though, he almost pulled me down twice and went straight for her and followed her exact steps. I learned that when he's interested but not so intense, scent is here but not super strong and also when he is hot on the heels. We will continue with longer tracks, road/asphalt tracks and older scent tracks as we get back into the groove. Very special thanks to Sonya for getting lost today 🤣❤️❤️
