Black Bayou Akitas

Black Bayou Akitas We raised AKC Akita Champion bloodlines in our home for many years & still in contact with quality breeders, rescues.

We’ve stopped breeding at this time & want to help Akita owners, perspective owners with information to raising a happy & healty Akita.

Akita's are a loyal and wonderful breed that need socialization. Please never send your Akita to dog daycares or dog parks to socialize them, as this can harm them, other dogs, and the breed. We recommend a trainer familiar with large breeds to help in these areas, and ideally one with experience with Akitas. Talk to your breeder or rescues about these resources. Too many dogs are in local animal control and need homes already yet large breeds, especially breeds like the Akita & many other breeds, don't often get the chance for a new home. Rescues try to save as many as they can but are overwhelmed with how many need help. Please do your research before adding one to your family, as Akitas are not suitable for first-time dog owners. As great as Akitas are, they need you to protect them, just as they look after you.

Our Nola (New Orleans Lady) crossed over the Rainbow Bridge Saturday 6/11/22. Nola 💜💛🤍was the sweetest Akita. She was a great Mom and loved all puppies even ones that weren’t hers. She was my shadow and laid at my feet, no matter what she would come running to me before anyone else. She was my world and I was hers. Our hearts are broken with the sudden and unexpected loss of Nola. Sadly we weren’t with her when she passed. We had boarded all our babies at the vet for our twins soccer and several hours away. We are thankful for Doc Susan and her staff who saw her distress and took her to surgery and tried everything they could to save her. Doc knew we were hours away and before surgery she let her hear my voice over the phone and let Lacey come in even though they were closed to be with her for me. Sadly, the surgery didn’t work and Doc couldn’t save her and she was helped to cross over to the rainbow 🌈 bridge while on the OR table. Its not goodbye but Till we see you again Nola, my Baby Girl. We will never forget you and you will always be in my heart. We love you always. R.I.P. Baby Girl. 9/23/11-6/11/22 😘
