Happy Amazing 14th Belated Birthday to Tica from our 1st Badger Canyon Litter Shaylee x Riley. I had a smile in my ❤️ when her family texted me on their 1/4/12 Birthday. I had thought we had lost them all after Beretta’s passing. She is living her best life with her loving family. Happy 14th Heavenly Birthday to my Beretta and Maizey, Camo, Gamble, Charlie and all of the pups from our 2012 1st litter.

Some good info for all of my clients.

When is cold too cold for your dog? We asked Keith Allison of Retriever Ridge Kennels for his advice (Aaron Davis 📸)

🚨 Early “Too Cold” Signs
If you start seeing these, it’s time to warm your dog up and give them a break:
• Shivering that doesn’t stop between retrieves
• Tight, hunched posture — tail tucked, muscles tight, looking tense instead of relaxed
• Sudden change in attitude — a fired-up dog now looks unsure, clingy, or miserable
• Reluctant to re-enter the water after being eager earlier
• Slow or stiff movements getting in and out of the blind, boat, or bank

🚨 More Serious Warning Signs
These are red flags — the hunt is over for that dog, and a vet may be needed:
• Shivering stops but the dog still looks cold and weak
• Very slow, clumsy, or “drunk-like” movement
• Confused, dull, or not responding normally
• Gums feel cold or look pale/blue instead of healthy pink

At this point, get the dog:
• Out of the water and out of the wind
• Into a dry vest / towel / blanket
• Into the truck to warm up gradually

And call a vet if they’re not perking up quickly.

Badger Canyon Labrador Retrievers
As I write this I am still just in shock. Badger Canyon Bratty Beretta (Bratty)passed away suddenly last evening, she went so fast . She was almost 14 years old. She hasn’t been eating great for the last couple of days but she does that and bounces back. She all of a sudden started having breathing issues at home. I called our amazing vet Dr Oliver it was after hours. He agreed to meet me at the office. My amazing friend Laura quickly came to help me carry her to the car. As I was holding my sweet Beretta in my arms in the back seat she passed away as we pulled into the vets parking lot at 8pm 11/4/2025 💔🐾. She went over the Rainbow Bridge the same way she came in on HER TERMS. I will miss her VERY LOUD bark as she got older as she demanded a treat or demanded to be pet. She was an amazing family member and will be very missed. I had the honor of delivering Beretta. Bratty has produced many amazing talented Pointing Lab puppies thru the years. She was such an amazing momma and even got milk when she wasn’t pregnant and helped nurse her Mom Shaylee’s litter.
Have fun in Heaven with your momma and all your sibs. She is the last of our very first litter of Badger Canyon Labs💔. It is a blessing that almost all of her litter was at least 13 when they passed.

I will never forget when I brought you home from the dog trainer he said NO MATTER WHAT if you say HERE you have to be willing to enforce it! She will test you. So when she was home a week, I let her out in the front yard. It was time to come in I yelled HERE BRATTY. Yup she looked at me gave me the finger and started running the opposite way. What did I do? I bolted out the door in my underwear and chased her ass down and made her listen. Thank god I live in the country.

I LOVE YOU Bratty Girl have fun rolling in cow p**p, taking off to where ever you want, BARKING Loud for Pets, Jumping into Fire Pits and chasing birds. You taught me so much about training my stubborn sweet girl.

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our 1st Badger Canyon Litter Pup Maizey!😢 She will be so missed and has a special place in my heart. I have been honored to watch her grow from a little pup into such a loving Big part of our good friends family. I have been lucky to go on family vacations and get her Sister Beretta, Mom Shaylee and Auntie’s all together for almost 14 years. You look so much like your mom Maizey and this Grandma miss you so much. Big Hugs and Prayers to Ron & Mindy for your loss. Please know you are the MOST LOVING DOGGIE PARENTS❤️

MAIZEY’s Families post:
Our beloved girl Maizey Cora Brown, crossed over the rainbow bridge, last Thursday Sept 4, 2025, at 5:00 pm. She was 13 yrs and 8 mos, to the day. She was surrounded, with love, by Ron and Melinda and nephew Charlie. ❤ We are heartbroken and devasted by her loss. 💔 Her back finally gave out, after being diagnosed with a partially fused spine, in Feb 2025. We are so blessed that Maizey chose us to be her family. We had an amazing life with her. Although we miss her every day, we know she is free of pain and running and chasing squirrels. 🐿 We love you Maizey girl. One day we will be together again. ❤🐾

🏡 Rehoming Needed: 11-Month-Old Female Walker Tree Hound

We are seeking a loving, experienced home for our beautiful 11-month-old female Walker Tree Hound. We took her in at 5 months of age and she has been raised in our home since then. She is:
• ✅ House-trained (uses a dog door)
• ✅ Crate/Kennel trained
• ✅ Up to date on all vaccinations (not yet spayed)
• ✅ Knows basic commands
• ✅ Extremely affectionate and loves to cuddle

Unfortunately, we need to rehome her due to increasing dog aggression toward our senior Labrador Retrievers (ages 13 and 10). She would thrive best in a home with no other dogs or small animals. She also has some resource guarding behaviors (mostly around food) that we have been working on.

Ideal Home:
• 🏡 Fenced yard
• 🕒 Plenty of time for exercise and engagement
• 🙋‍♂️ Dog-savvy, responsible owner who understands and is willing to manage her aggression issues

She is a wonderful companion and deserves a home where she can be the center of attention and continue to grow in a safe, structured environment.
