Happy Amazing 14th Belated Birthday to Tica from our 1st Badger Canyon Litter Shaylee x Riley. I had a smile in my ❤️ when her family texted me on their 1/4/12 Birthday. I had thought we had lost them all after Beretta’s passing. She is living her best life with her loving family. Happy 14th Heavenly Birthday to my Beretta and Maizey, Camo, Gamble, Charlie and all of the pups from our 2012 1st litter.

Some good info for all of my clients.

When is cold too cold for your dog? We asked Keith Allison of Retriever Ridge Kennels for his advice (Aaron Davis 📸)

🚨 Early “Too Cold” Signs
If you start seeing these, it’s time to warm your dog up and give them a break:
• Shivering that doesn’t stop between retrieves
• Tight, hunched posture — tail tucked, muscles tight, looking tense instead of relaxed
• Sudden change in attitude — a fired-up dog now looks unsure, clingy, or miserable
• Reluctant to re-enter the water after being eager earlier
• Slow or stiff movements getting in and out of the blind, boat, or bank

🚨 More Serious Warning Signs
These are red flags — the hunt is over for that dog, and a vet may be needed:
• Shivering stops but the dog still looks cold and weak
• Very slow, clumsy, or “drunk-like” movement
• Confused, dull, or not responding normally
• Gums feel cold or look pale/blue instead of healthy pink

At this point, get the dog:
• Out of the water and out of the wind
• Into a dry vest / towel / blanket
• Into the truck to warm up gradually

And call a vet if they’re not perking up quickly.
