Po***ck Woman Killed in Grant Parish Crash

Grant Parish – On March 1, 2024, at approximately 7:40 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 167 at Louisiana Highway 1241. This crash claimed the life of 33-year-old Kari Butts of Po***ck.

The initial investigation revealed that a 2020 Toyota Camry, driven by Butts, was preparing to turn at the intersection of Louisiana Highway 1241 and U.S. Highway 167. For reasons still under investigation, Butts entered onto U.S. Highway 167, but failed to yield to a southbound 2021 Jeep Gladiator. As a result, Butts’ vehicle was struck by the Jeep.

Butts, who was not restrained, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver and passenger of the Jeep, who were restrained, sustained no injuries. Routine toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis.

While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, distracted and inattentive driving continues to be a leading cause of crashes in our state. Louisiana State Police urges all motorists to stay alert while driving. A lapse in one’s awareness can have deadly consequences.

Although not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death.

In 2024, Troop E Troopers have investigated six fatal crashes resulting in seven fatalities.
