Community Notice: Animal Control and Shelter Update
The City of Benson would like to inform residents that, at this time, we do not have active Animal Control Officers, though we currently have applicants moving through the hiring process. Additionally, our animal shelter is undergoing important renovations to improve future services.
Due to limited staffing and the temporary unavailability of shelter facilities, we kindly ask the public to utilize community-based resources to help reunite lost pets with their families. Effective steps include:
Speaking with neighbors in the area where the animal was found
Posting photos and information on local Facebook groups or community boards
If you encounter an emergency situation involving animals—such as aggressive stray behavior, animal bites, or suspected neglect or cruelty—please contact the Benson Police Department. An officer will respond to assess and address the situation.
Please note: We are currently unable to house animals, even in cases where a police officer responds.
We want to emphasize that a healthy, non-aggressive stray animal does not pose an immediate threat to the community. In many cases, these animals may be lost pets trying to find their way home. Removing them from the area where they were found may unintentionally prevent their owners from locating them.
Thank you for your understanding, compassion, and support as we work to restore full Animal Control services for the community.
