Maybe viewing these photos of some of the quiet moments with our crew and our horses will bring a smile to your face. Let us know if you want to join our crew or otherwise get involved with what we do.

It's Foster Pasture Season!
Today, the first two MTTR horses went to pasture for the season. Petunia and Sis, both in their mid to late 20s, sure dressed up the pasture where they will certainly be spoiled with treats and attention. Thank you Renee and Karl!
Do you have pasture with good fencing in central Oregon that will need to be grazed this season? We're always looking for ways to enrich the lives of the horses while they are at MTTR.
Feel free to reach out and ask about ways you can be involved in the mission of MTTR.

Today's bunch of somewhat random photos from Mustangs to the Rescue include taking Ginger for a walk, helping transport horses in need, racing daylight finishing chores, and photos of several of our horses eating dinner under the full moon (taken with a 2 second exposure). Enjoy!

Just another day at Mustangs to the Rescue. Enjoy a few random pics from today at the rescue facility.

This deer was found with his head stuck in a hammock last summer in a Bend neighborhood (Photo 1). We responded and found the deer to be very compromised, looking neurologic, and unable to stand. Because deer are managed by the state, we made the best assessment we could before calling Oregon State Police. Together, MTTR, the property owner, and the OSP officer continued assessments until we had a plan. Standing on the hammock to hold the deer immobile, the officer deftly cut the heavy hammock from the antlers while the owner held a strong flashlight (Photo 2). We're happy to report that without the weight of the hammock, the deer recovered quickly and was easily identified in the neighborhood for weeks because of a small piece of hammock still hanging from his antler.
We feel extremely fortunate to be in a community where an OSP wildlife agent is willing to take the time to thoroughly assess what is best for wildlife and get a bit creative to accomplish it.
Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue skills come in handy with more than just horses!

Sometimes when mud is frustrating, we just gotta go all in with a mud bath.
You can simply look at this photo or you can appreciate the muddiness of it all and complete the puzzle of it to somehow make the mud less annoying in real life. We made the puzzle really easy so no mud-frustration buildup will occur. And yes, of course it's an appaloosa.

After being sold to slaughter twice, Kitten ended up at Mustangs to the Rescue with a history of founder, a distinct lack of trust of humans, and no training.
Last year, Kitten had a choke episode. The small blockage was removed but days later, Kitten appeared to have had a stroke likely caused by dehydration from the choke. She survived, but was unable to create tears in her right eye. Despite immediate veterinary attention and treatments six times daily, Kitten's eye ruptured and became very painful. We opted to remove the eye and we're glad we did - she was clearly no longer in pain. Linda Conrad took a liking to her from early on and had visited Kitten often. Linda has continued to visit and support Kitten through her recovery. This photo was taken a couple days ago during a visit. We are so grateful for Linda's commitment to Kitten and we wish that every horse at MTTR would have a community member stand up and commit to them.
