Lilies + Cats = A Dangerous Combo!

Even a small nibble or exposure to pollen can lead to serious kidney damage in cats. This Easter, keep all lilies far out of paw’s reach and opt for pet-safe blooms instead! 🌷

Know the signs of lily poisoning and call your vet immediately if you suspect exposure.

Sweet Remi came to VRCCO in pain, struggling with severe ocular inflammation and dry eye caused by diabetes. Her eyes were no longer helping her see—they were only hurting her. After thoughtful discussion, her care team and family made the decision to remove both of her eyes to give her what mattered most: a pain-free life. Now, just weeks after surgery, Remi is back to her happy, adventurous self.

Her mom shared this message with us:
“Remi is doing amazing and back to running around the ranch. She has adjusted so well. She still loves to go on adventures and swimming. She also still digs for sage rats and chases them! Pretty amazing how well she’s doing not even a month after surgery! want to thank you for being so great, so kind hearted, gentle, and caring for my girl and I.”

🚨 You ate WHAT?! 🚨

This pup came in after snacking on something truly out of this world. Lucky for him, our specialist in extraterrestrial object removal was able to safely extract the foreign invader and may have simultaneously saved our planet from invasion.

If you suspect your dog has consumed something extraterrestrial, your next step is crucial... Check your calendar and see if it's April 1st 😉

🚨 It’s National Poison Prevention Week! 🚨

Every year, thousands of pets experience toxic exposures—many of which can be prevented. Here’s how to keep your furry friends safe:

⚠️ Household Hazards – Cleaners, antifreeze, batteries, and pest control products can be toxic. Use pet-safe alternatives and keep pets away from areas where these products have been used recently.
🌿 Dangerous Plants & Fungi – Certain plants and mushrooms can cause serious illness. Most lilies are very toxic to cats specifically. Research plants before bringing them home. Be cautious around wild mushrooms on hikes, and check local blue green algae reports and signage at lakes before letting your dog swim.
🥂 Alcohol & Caffeine – Even small amounts of alcohol, coffee, tea, or energy drinks can cause serious harm to pets, leading to vomiting, tremors, or even organ failure. Keep drinks out of reach!
🍫 Toxic Foods – Chocolate, grapes, onions, and xylitol can be deadly. Always double-check a food is pet-safe before sharing and keep harmful items out of reach.
‼️ Recreational Drugs – Ma*****na, edibles, and other substances can cause vomiting, disorientation, or seizures, and even death. If ingestion happens, seek immediate veterinary care and be honest about what your pet has consumed.
💊 Human Medications – Even a single dropped pill can be dangerous! Store all medications securely, and never give pets human medicine unless directed by a vet.

If you ever suspect poisoning, call us or the ASPCA Poison Control Hotline at (888) 426-4435. Their experts can guide you on whether your pet needs to be seen by us and how urgently they require care.
