Good info to know, print and have on hand in your home. At my house, it’s taped to the inside of a cabinet door in my office.
JUST DO IT PEOPLE !!!
Hopefully, you’ll never need it, but good info to know and to avoid poisonous items from the get go !!!!
You may be surprised at how many things you use, eat, or decorate with pose a risk to your feline family members. We have a guide on how to protect cats from poisoning, including a list of harmful substances, at alleycat.org/Poison. This is lifesaving information, so we hope you'll share it.
A brief, but not comprehensive, list of common items to watch out for:
- Your medications. Assume all of your medications are poisonous to cats. If you drop a pill on the floor, pick it up quickly.
- Antifreeze. With winter coming, if you spill antifreeze, clean it up immediately.
- Houseplants. Lilies, chrysanthemum, azaleas and rhododendrons, tulips and daffodils, and sago palms are all poisonous.
- Insecticides. These chemicals can cause a problem if your cat grooms herself after walking or lying in a recently treated area.
- Cleaning products. Store all bleach, laundry detergent, surface cleaners, and other such products in cat-inaccessible areas of your home.
- Human food and drink. Watch your chocolate, alcohol, coffee, tea, energy drinks, onions, garlic, gum, cooked bones, or anything with the sweetener xylitol. All are dangerous for cats.
