Ever wondered what a day in board and train looks like? While every stay has variety depending on the goals for the dog, an average day often looks like this:
- Exercise where the dog can burn some steam, have some autonomy in choice of sniffing and exploring and possibly some play with other dogs. We love off leash hikes for this, but this could be a neighborhood walk where they are allowed a little more freedom to sniff and explore. While this outing will absolutely have training elements (come, name recognition, not pulling on leash, leave it, etc) that isn’t the focus of this outing.
- Group training. We will work with your dog in the presence of other dogs to use that distraction to improve their focus and ability to settle around them.
- One on one training. This is where we really tackle your goals and work on specific skill building. It can be anything, not barking at the door bell, go to bed, stay, leave it on the counters, etc.
- Real world training sessions. This can be going to a patio to work on settle, or having people over to practice your dog’s greetings. We take the skills we have worked one on one and apply them in a more real life setting to hope they better translate home.
-Rest time! We have to build in breaks so they learn to settle on their own, take naps and recharge for their next training session. Especially for young dogs who never want to stop, this can be tough, but needed!
And of course, since they are living in our homes with us, we are making sure that they are always practicing good behaviors and not getting reinforced for the ones we are trying to discourage. It’s easy to wonder why board & train is more expensive than your average boarding- and this is why! Wonder if your dog could benefit? Ask us!
