Going somewhere out of state?
You might need a Certificate of Health…

If you’re traveling it’s good form to get your pets checked out.

The health certificate must be signed by an accredited veterinarian after examining your pet and determining that it is free of infectious diseases and satisfies all import requirements of the receiving state, territory, or country.

You will need a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection to travel and some airlines require an acclimation certificate. Both of these certificates can only be completed and signed by a federally accredited veterinarian.

Can we do it? Yes we can!
Call and ask us about your situation and we’ll happily help you out.

At Tumalo Animal Hospital, we prioritize the health and safety of your pets. One common concern for dog owners in our area is cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum). This invasive plant can pose significant risks to your furry friends, particularly during outdoor activities.

How Cheatgrass Affects Dogs

Cheatgrass produces sharp seeds that can easily become lodged in your dog’s paws, ears, or even between their toes. These seeds can cause discomfort, pain, and potential infections if not addressed promptly. Dogs that frequently walk or play in areas where cheatgrass is prevalent are especially at risk.

How to Remove Cheatgrass from Your Dog’s Paws:

1. Inspect Regularly: After walks or outdoor playtime, take a moment to check your dog’s paws for any signs of cheatgrass seeds. Look between the toes and around the pads.

2. Gentle Removal: If you find any seeds, gently grasp them with your fingers or use a pair of tweezers to pull them out. Be careful not to pull too hard, as this can cause injury to your dog’s skin.

3. Monitor for Irritation: Keep an eye on your dog’s paws for any signs of redness, swelling, or discomfort in the days following your outdoor activities. If you notice any persistent issues, consult your veterinarian.

4. Consider Protective Gear: If your dog frequently walks in areas with cheatgrass, consider using protective booties. These can help shield their paws from sharp seeds and other debris.

By being proactive and vigilant, you can help protect your dog from the harmful effects of cheatgrass. If you have any concerns about your pet’s health or need further advice, feel free to reach out to us at Tumalo Animal Hospital. Your pet’s well-being is our top priority!

Protect Your Pet’s Paws: The Dangers of Hot Pavement 🐾
As summer heats up, it’s essential to keep our furry friends safe from the hidden dangers of hot pavement. At Tumalo Animal Hospital, we want to remind pet owners about the risks that high temperatures pose to your pet’s paws.
Why Hot Pavement is a Concern:
Burns and Blisters: Just like our feet can get burned on hot surfaces, your pet’s paw pads are vulnerable too. Temperatures can soar to dangerous levels, causing painful burns and blisters.
Sensitivity to Heat: Dogs and cats have sensitive paw pads that can easily be damaged by hot surfaces. Even a short walk on scorching pavement can lead to injury.
Signs of Distress: Watch for signs that your pet is uncomfortable, such as lifting their paws, limping, or refusing to walk. If you notice any of these behaviors, it’s time to find a cooler surface.
Tips to Keep Your Pet Safe:
Test the Pavement: Place your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds. If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for your pet!
Walk Early or Late: Plan walks during the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or late evening.
Use Protective Gear: Consider dog booties designed to protect paws from hot surfaces.
Stay Hydrated: Always carry water for your pet during walks to keep them hydrated and cool.
What to Do if Your Pet Gets Burned:
If you suspect your pet has suffered a paw pad burn, contact us immediately. We can provide the necessary care to help your furry friend heal.
At Tumalo Animal Hospital, we care about your pet’s well-being. Let’s keep their paws safe this summer! 🐶❤️🐱

At Tumalo Animal Hospital we Spay and Neuter :)

A spay procedure is performed on female cats and dogs, and involves removing the ovaries and uterus. In addition to removing the possibility of reproducing, the benefits of spaying include eliminating risk of pyometra (an infected uterus), decreased risk of mammary cancers, and reduced behavioral issues.

A neuter procedure is performed on male cats and dogs and involves removing the testicles. In addition to removing the possibility of reproducing, neutering can minimize unwanted behavior due to testosterone such as urine marking and aggression. It also eliminates the risk of testicular cancers and enlargement of the prostate.

Ideal age of spay or neuter is dependent on breed, size, and individual pet lifestyles.

Talk to us about the appropriate time to spay or neuter your pet!
