A last day full of surprises at Sofala. Putting the bow down and picking up a .375 to hunt a CAPE BUFFALO, now that was not something we predicted but it was exactly what Donny Dye decided to do. The “grey ghost.” Kudu are in a category of their own and SO elusive. There is no pattern or predictable behaviour and right when you think you will never see one after days of hunting, all of a sudden one may just appear. Congrats to Scott Buchanan and David Bond.

Jayme Buchanan made a textbook shot on a beautiful impala ram and added a blesbok ram to her list of African game. Leo Staples shot a beautiful nyala bull with his selfbow and one could sense his appreciation of this experience. Life is short, Africa is far away but taking advantage of this kind of opportunity is very special! This is what Sofala Safaris is all about.

 it is quite a unique experience and I sometimes refer to it as “the spirit of the trad bow hunter” where the whole group in a way suffer together and celebrate together. Long hours and sometimes frustrating moments like when an animal is within 12 yards but not presenting a shot. We all go through this together and if need be will help to find an animal as a group by doing a sweep or whatever it takes.

Early this morning Marinus (veteran guide and our cook) found Tommy’s kudu. Tommy made a good shot but we ran out of daylight to find the kudu and everyone helped this morning. I always envy the man who walks up to his first kudu bull hunted in Africa.

We have a WORLD CHAMPION archer en route to Africa. Sofala Safaris is looking forward to welcome Jayme Buchanan who recently won the IBO Selfbow World Championship for women.

I also want to personally thank Thomas Leach putting together this group. Sofala is ready to GO!
