Zuma

This extremely handsome boy has officially joined the pack. He has a pretty horrific back story that we will fully shared at some point, but first we would like to focus on the present.

We have been allowing Zuma time to decompress after spending a little over 2 years in the shelter. The next few weeks will be focusing on building his confidence. As expected, he is startled by pretty much everything home related, so first things first.

It will be a little bit before Zuma is officially adoptable so until then follow his story and watch him bloom 🌻

While our team attended Shelter After Dark, hosted by the amazing people at Skagit Humane Society last week we were approached about a sweet pup that has spent the last couple years at WAIF. Those couple years have been heaven to him compared to the time he spent before.

Yesterday our team drove down to Whidbey Island to meet this handsome man and his incredible team. A team that has worked tirelessly to build this boy up. A team that was very open to new ideas. We have developed a plan and will be going down quite a bit over the next couple of months.

Meet Zuma ❤️‍🩹

Because his life matters.
Because he DESERVES this chance.
Because when multiple organizations come together with one common goal, magic happens.

On April 9th, Zuma will have been a shelter dog with us for two years. We would love to get him settled into a home soon so he can learn what it is like to have a loving family of his own. You may recall that Zuma was one of several dogs rescued from a suspected dogfighting ring. He and three of the other dogs he was rescued with passed behavior assessments so they could be adopted out. His companions were adopted long ago but he was the shyest of them. Shelter staff have worked with him and call him “a sweetheart”. Zuma is nicely mannered, knows how to sit, is gentle in taking a treat from your hand, and walks pretty well on a leash. He is considered special needs due to his background and his shy nature. He is in need of a home with no kids under 10 and no other dogs. Please give the shelter a call at (360) 678-8901 if you have questions about this very special boy. He just needs an opportunity to show what a good boy he is.

661 collars.

They found 661 collars, many of them with tags still attached, in a pile in his barn. There was blood and 22 shell casings all over the place.

As horrible as it is to picture what was done to these dogs, people have to understand that each one of them needs to be accounted for. He needs to be held responsible for what he has done.

Most shelter dogs do not come wearing collars and tags. Most of the dogs that were wearing tags were likely owner surrenders. If you surrendered your dog to Miranda’s “Rescue”(especially within the last year), please call the authorities and make a report as soon as possible.

If you paid a hefty fee and were promised that your dog would be adopted out or would live the rest of their life at this “sanctuary”, he sold you a promise that didn’t happen and that can be considered fraud.

Without these single individual owner surrenders coming forward, they have no idea of the magnitude of the dogs he killed and the money that changed hands that may be unaccounted for (and most likely is).

117 (plus the original 8 deceased dogs were found in various graves in just one section of the property. These dogs were killed recently.… all of them are assumed to have been buried between January 2026 and April 2026. (According to the Humboldt County Sheriff during today’s press conference).

We need to keep posting and sharing this information. These dogs deserve justice for what was done to them. 💔

From rescuers everywhere...

Our mission was to help the abused, neglected and discarded dogs in our area and beyond.

Our mission has never been to relieve you of the commitment YOU made to your dog when you took them in.

People have babies and keep their dogs.

People change careers and keep their dogs.

Peoples schedules get hectic and they keep their dogs.

People move and find a way to keep their dog.

People run into issues with manageable/trainable behavior AND THEY KEEP THEIR DOGS.

These situations are not unique.

We didn’t start this rescue to bail you out. I’m sorry, I know that may sound harsh— and yes, we know that there are absolutely situations in which people can truly no longer care for their dog- and we help with those as much as we can.

But for the love of Dog— step up for your dog. Show up for your dog. Show your dog the same love and commitment today that you showed them the day you brought them home.

Dogs are being euthanized every single day because the shelters do not have space. FRIENDLY. HEALTHY. HAPPY. ADOPTABLE. DOGS.

Your dog is no different than any of the dogs who have been losing their lives every day and if you give up on your dog— they could be next.

Miss Lola is very proud of herself today after her 2 day adventure.

We are very happy she is home as she really is the sweetest girl you could ask for. Lola joined our crew this past weekend from . Aside from her initially shyness and runaway tendencies she really would make the most amazing companion.
