I can’t believe I am doing this. I am catching the flies on the window to give to our new animal friend. Frog. Galena found this beautiful little frog by the door in the garage last night. When she gave him to me, he was so cold. I put him in a fish bowl, that I just happen to have, along with some dirt from our garden, and some soaked grass hay and sticks. Galena has had a frog so she gave me the scoop on what I will need. So now I am catching flies until the crickets from the pet store get here. One more animal.

So the baby ducks have all grown up. Last evening, they were flying around the house. I thought they were not going to show up to go in the barn at night. but they came back and spent the night with the geese, donkeys and pony. It seems that this is what I do in life......raise babies up so they can eventually fly away.

So, now the ducklings are in the lambing shed and I just let them out on to the pasture. There is a little kiddy pool for them to swim in, and their feathers are growing in. And I thought that human kids grew fast.

At White Rabbit, one of my main concerns is that, not only do the children learn the ABCs and 123s and learn to listen, but that they learn about their emotions. The goal is that when they leave here for Kindergarten, each child is aware of and can name the emotion they are feeling and why they are feeling it.
The other day when one of the moms, Heather, picked up Aveline and put her in her in her car seat, Aveline started crying. And when Heather asked why she was crying, Aveline said “sad”. Aveline isn’t yet 2 years old. amazing!
I just had to share this.

Disclaimer: Aveline is my grand daughter.

We are raising 3 wild baby mallards this Spring and they are finally out in the barn in a little round pen and a heat lamp focused on their bed. I can’t wait until we get to set them loose in the slough.I love Spring.

Part of my job is to teach babies how to fly.....no, literally. We have three baby mallards that we can raise and hopefully teach to fly away in the Fall. So cute!

OMG! I got bamboozeled. We were having lunch. Aveline didn’t like what was in her lunchbox so she handed it back to me, saying No, no, no (she is 2). I took it back, knowing that if I didn’t, it would end up on the floor. She asked for something else, in her baby way. I told her that she had to eat the good things first. She started fooling around. I told her to turn around and put her feet on the floor underneath the table. She did, but kept fooling around. Then she started whimpering and pointing to her diaper. I asked her if she needed me to change her diaper. She said “poop”. I didn’t want to let her get up.......but I also didn’t want her to sit in a dirty diaper. so I said, “OK we’ll change you”. she got up and smiled that smile at me, and I knew I had been bamboozeled. The diaper was clean.

After so many years of learning from the kids, I now see my role in their development is more of me creating the space for each child to explore their world and guide them back to safety when they make unhealthy choices. It’s more of allowing than of teaching.
