A hunting trip in central Africa turned fatal in a matter of moments. 🐾💔

Ernie Dosio, a 75-year-old businessman and hunter from Lodi in California, died after being attacked by a group of elephants while on a licensed hunt in Gabon.

He was in the dense rainforest of the Lopé region, tracking a rare antelope, when he and his professional guide unexpectedly came across five female elephants with a calf. In thick vegetation, the animals were nearly impossible to see until it was too late.

The herd reacted instantly.

What began as a routine hunt quickly became a life-threatening encounter. The elephants charged, likely acting to protect their young. Dosio was knocked down and fatally trampled, while his guide survived with serious injuries.

Forest elephants are known for their size, strength, and defensive behavior, especially in close encounters. In environments like Gabon’s dense forests, visibility is limited, making these situations even more unpredictable.

Dosio was known for his long history in hunting and business, managing agricultural land and vineyards back home.

The incident has sparked discussion about both the risks involved in hunting and the reality of entering wild habitats where animals respond on instinct, not expectation.
