A lot of people can struggle with giving their birds a bath. I see this problem especially with Cockatiels, African Greys, and Cockatoos. They can be very stubborn, fearful, and unenthusiastic with bath time, but with these species being so dusty, it is good for both you and them to get regular baths. Generally, I try to do this in the least stressful way possible for each individual. Some love their water bowl, some love the shower, some love the sink, and some love a spray bottle. But, what do you do if they hate all of that?

Have you ever seen your bird start putting their wings out and dancing around when you vacuum? That is a natural bathing response! I love to turn the vacuum cleaner on, or play heavy rainstorm sounds and very lightly mist them with a spray bottle to help them get used to bathing willingly. I just love watching birds enjoy their baths! Check out how much Marco, who typically doesn't like water, loved being sprayed while I played rainstorm sounds. We have the Extreme Mist bird mister available in store, and I really love these as they allow you to set it to a super fine mist, and will continuously spray for a long time. Stop in to see them today 12-7pm.

What form of bathing works best for you and your bird? Share pictures of your birds enjoying their bath time below!

All of our birds love their fresh items, but our littles especially enjoy them. They often grab their favorite piece and fly away with their prize so no one else takes it. Check out how adorable our little Green Singer Finch is with his morning pepper🌶️!

Are you seeing double💙💙? We are! Have you stopped by to meet our newest store bird Kazoo? (Pictured closest to the front) Kazoo and Blue are brothers, coming from the same parents, but just a few years apart in age. They were not raised together, but when Kazoo would come in for grooming, they would have the cutest visits! Since coming to live with us a few months ago, they have taken to each other very quickly. Kazoo is just as friendly and silly as his brother is, which has made him a great addition to the store and we enjoy having him. If you’d like to meet Kazoo, stop by and say hi! They LOVE to chat with people! We are open on Mondays 12-7pm, Thursdays 12-7pm, and Saturdays 10am-5pm.

Let's talk about some old wives tales that we’ve heard throughout the years and still hear to this day!

-Cutting a parrot’s tongue helps it talk.
This is completely false and extremely cruel to even imagine! A parrot’s ability to mimic speech comes from its syrinx (voice box), not the tongue. Injuring the tongue can cause permanent damage, pain, and feeding problems.
-Feeding parrots alcohol helps them bond or “loosen up” with their new owners.
Alcohol is toxic to birds, even in small amounts. It can quickly lead to serious health issues or death.
-Parrots should be kept in the dark to keep them calm and quiet.
While parrots do need proper sleep, excessive darkness or isolation can cause stress, depression, and confusion.
-If a parrot bites, you should hit its beak to discipline it.
Physical punishment damages trust and often increases aggression. Parrots respond far better to positive reinforcement and understanding triggers.
Are any of these old wives tales things you have heard before? Did you know of any different ones that you’d like to share with us? Comment down below!

Did you know there are two main types of cinnamon, but one is considered not safe for parrots? The two types are Cassia and Ceylon, they each have different chemical compounds and they’re from different parts of the world. Cassia cinnamon originates from China and Indonesia, and contains a higher amount of coumarin which is considered a toxic compound in large amounts, often leading to blood thinning complications. Parrots are small in size and even a small amount of toxic ingredients can build up in their system over time which is why we steer towards only using Ceylon cinnamon. Ceylon originates from Madagascar, Seychelles, and Sri Lanka. Ceylon contains negligible amounts of coumarin, and has great health benefits as an antioxidant. Antioxidants are known to reduce inflammation, assist in repairing cellular damage, and maintaining good feather quality. If you’d like to stop by to pick some up for your bird we are open Monday and Thursday 12-7, and Saturday 10-5.
