I saw a client this week who asked me a really honest question.

Her dog is 4 years old, and she said, “I saw you have a webinar on aging dogs, but since mine is only 4, I think I’m going to skip it.”

And it got me thinking about something I see all the time with dog owners.

We spend so much time learning about puppies, adolescence, training, maybe even nutrition or activities. But most people don’t spend much time learning about what comes later—not because they don’t care, but because it feels far away.

Until one day it isn’t.

And then we find ourselves trying to figure things out in real time.

If you’re lucky enough to have an old dog someday, you will wish you had understood a few things earlier—what to look for, what’s normal, what’s not, and how to support them well through that stage.

That’s what this webinar is about. It’s about the before—when your dog still has so much life in them, but needs you to understand them in a different way.

We do briefly talk about loss, because it’s part of loving a dog and being prepared matters. But this isn’t 90 minutes of sadness. It’s about helping you show up well for the years you still have.

If that feels like something you don’t want to be playing catch-up on later, I’d love to have you there.

I’ve been quietly working on something new, and I think it may be one of the most meaningful webinars I’ve created.

Most dog education focuses on puppies, training basics, and adolescence—and those things matter. But dogs keep changing long after those stages end, and I want to be there to help you navigate your dog’s entire life.

The gray muzzle often comes quietly—and so do many of the changes that come with it. Sometimes we assume these things are just aging. Sometimes we blame behavior. Often, the real story is something we cannot see yet. Sometimes they are signs your dog needs support.

That’s why I created The Wise Dog: Helping Your Dog Age with Comfort, Clarity & Love.

We’ll talk about:
• arthritis, pain, and mobility changes
• behavior changes that may actually be physical
• cognitive shifts and confusion
• how to advocate for your dog at the vet
• quality of life and difficult decisions
• how to love this season well

Between puppy breath and adult maturity lies a confusing stage called adolescence.

I remember when my own dog was in that teenage phase. Up until then things were going pretty smoothly, but suddenly focusing became much harder — especially when deer were nearby. Living around here, that’s a pretty common challenge! It wasn’t that anything had gone wrong; it was simply a stage of development where curiosity, independence, and awareness of the world suddenly expand.

During adolescence a lot is changing at once. Dogs are growing physically, their social relationships are shifting, and they’re still learning how to navigate the world as they move toward adulthood.

Because this stage often gets overlooked, many owners assume something has gone wrong when their sweet puppy suddenly seems a little different. In reality, adolescence is a normal part of development, and understanding what’s happening during this stage can make it much easier to guide a dog toward becoming the adult companion you hoped for when you first brought home that little fluffball.

I’m hosting a webinar called “Under the Hood – The Developmental Changes of the Adolescent Dog.” We’ll take a look at what’s actually happening during this stage and why it matters so much.

If you’re currently living with a teenage dog — or your puppy is heading in that direction — you might find it helpful.

And out of curiosity… how old is your dog right now?

Some gifts are practical. Some are pretty.
But the best ones say: “I see how much your dog matters.”

I wrote something for anyone who adores their dog the way we do — who builds their day around wagging tails and wet noses and a love that doesn’t take a holiday break.

If you’re looking for a thoughtful, last-minute gift for yourself or a dog-loving friend… this one might feel like “yes, that’s us.”

It doesn’t matter if it’s a Secret Santa, a coworker, a boss, a friend, or your family… ornaments are the perfect holiday gift.

They’re thoughtful without being extravagant. You don’t have to know someone’s hobbies, size, décor style, or what they already own. Everyone has a tree… and every tree has room for one more story.

If the person loves it, it becomes part of their traditions. Every December they pull it out and suddenly they are walking down memory lane… and hopefully they think of you (fondly).

If they don’t love it, it quietly gets moved to the back of the tree — the land of misfits — and no feelings are harmed in the process. Honestly, what other gift is that risk-proof?

When I look at my own tree, I see a timeline of my life:
• one from a classmate in grade school
• a few I made with my tiny kid-hands
• one from my first Christmas with Michael
• the last ornament my dad ever gave me
• and a hundred memories in between

That’s the real magic of ornaments: they’re tiny memory keepers.
That’s what I hope my art becomes for somebody this year — a little chapter in their story.

These ornaments are surprisingly technical — tiny 3-inch paintings that never behave the same way twice. Even with the same colors, each one becomes its own thing. Like snowflakes… no two ever alike.

And when you shop small this season, you’re supporting a real person who will absolutely do a happy dance on the way to the post office.

The holidays have a way of turning our routines upside down — more guests, more excitement, less daylight… and suddenly the dog who’s usually content is looking at you like, “So… what’s next?”

I’ve found the simplest way to help is to build in a few minutes of fun and connection each day. A little training, a little play, a little shared joy — that’s what dogs care about most.

I put together a “dogs-at-Christmas” blog with easy ideas to help your pup feel included in all the festivities.

Are you going to be around a dog this Thanksgiving?
Whether you own a dog, love a dog, or are simply spending the holiday in the same house as one, I put together something that can make your day a LOT smoother.

I’m giving away my free Thanksgiving Dog & Family Activity Workbook again this year — and it’s designed to help everyone (two-legged and four-legged) have an easier, calmer holiday.

Inside you’ll find:
• Brain games to burn off dog energy
• A Thanksgiving Kong recipe
• Activities for kids AND adults (coloring pages, puzzles, word games)
• A brand-new safety guide
• Easy, fun training games you can play before Thanksgiving so dogs know what to do when guests arrive

If you grab it now, you’ll have plenty of time to play a few practice rounds and set your dog — and your guests — up for success.

Download it free here: https://colossal-writer-724.kit.com/01cf161e92

Feel free to share with friends, family, or anyone spending the holiday with pets!

Thanksgiving should feel cozy—not chaotic. If you’re tired of the same old routine (or dodging that one uncle who wants to debate politics), I made something to help you actually enjoy the day.

When training breaks down, it’s not about blame — it’s about understanding where connection slipped away.

This mindset shift is where progress really starts.

I see this imbalance all the time. I sometimes picture a person and their dog on a teeter-totter — each on opposite ends, trying to find balance.

Too often, I see people expecting the dog to carry the bulk of the responsibility for success.
“They know this,” we say — but have we truly practiced it in every environment, with fair support and guidance? Have we done our due diligence as the teacher?

That moment — when we stop asking “Why won’t they?” and start asking “Where did I lose them?” — is where growth begins for both ends of the leash.

Join me on Tuesday, Nov 4th at 6:30 PM CST for Novice to Master, where we’ll dive into what balance, clarity, and fairness really look like in training.

Attend live or catch the replay — all for $10.
