Y’all!! The skeeters are so bad that the Air Force has been helping. They are as big as quarters!! Last night they hit Cameron Parish. Tonight they will hit Calcasieu.

MOSQUITO 'AIR RAID': If you see or hear one of these in the skies tonight about dusk, do not be alarmed. Two of these U.S. Air Force C-130 aircraft will be out spraying in the parish to help with this latest post-Delta mosquito outbreak.

Damn. This dude y’all. Amazing. And correct. My kids saw me break down today. They will also see me rebuild myself. I WILL survive. Somehow. Someway. My kids are learning. It is ok to cry. It is even OK to drop a few cuss words. (Ok I have had a lot, and many start with F). But I WILL secure my home. I WILL feed and water my family, my animals, and even my neighbors. My neighbors help feed and water us. They see perfect strangers drive to our Evac Site and give gift cards and food and help cleaning. They learn that hard work is it’s own reward. They learn so much. Generator 101. And 201 when it dies after an evacuation trip. Vet School with the goats getting hurt. Soon they will learn Mold Remediation. And then Drywall. Flooring. Things my soft kids have never had to do.

Yes, I realize that my kids may now be Class Of 2024, 2027 and 2029 instead of a year earlier. But they are developing. Growing. Evolving. In a way most non-Hurricane kids can never get.

Because of my girls jumpstarting the conversation, a Junior Division is starting at the Houston International Quilt Festival! I am so excited. My WildChild’a quilt is the current face! AND she will be allowed to enter it into the competition proper, as will my other children! They will be competing against each other, so watch out for that Sibling Rivalry! Lol.

We are excited about a brand new competition and exhibit debuting at our Houston show this year! Junior Superstars will feature quilts from young quilters, age seven through 18 years old. Prize ribbons will be awarded for First, Second, and Third place in each designated age group. An Honorable Mention award will also be given in each. The award winners will be on display in the exhibit at our show. If you know someone between the ages of seven and 18 who makes quilts, please encourage them to enter!
