is a non-profit organization which has been serving people and pets since 1979. By agreement with the Raleigh County Commission and the City of Beckley, the Humane Society enforces state and local laws pertaining to animals but is not a government agency. The animal shelter is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday excluding holidays from 11:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. For more information about the animal shelter, call 304-253-8921 or fax 304-255-9134.

We’re kicking off a fun new challenge for our shelter pets-our outreach coordinator is excited for pre season 🏈 ,and what better way to help her celebrate! We need YOU to help us fill the bowl! ❤️

Our goal is to fill all 100 pieces in our Shelter Bowl Challenge! Each piece represents a little help for the dogs and cats counting on us every single day.

💰 $10 fills ONE piece!
🐶 Donate for the dogs
🐱 Donate for the cats
🧡 Donate food, treats, toys, litter or supplies
📲 Share this post and help us spread the word!

Every time a piece is filled, we’ll mark it off and watch our bowl get closer and closer to FULL! 🥣🎉

Do you remember our post about our long-term girl, Zoey?
Well, today her life had a MAJOR and very exciting change!

ZOEY FOUND HER FOREVER HOME!

After waiting patiently for her family to find her, Zoey is officially on to the next chapter of her life. From here on out, it’s all couch cuddles, cozy beds, belly rubs, and being spoiled exactly the way she deserves!
We couldn’t be happier for this sweet girl. Sometimes the wait is long, but the happily ever after is SO worth it.

Whether you have a playful kitten, a sassy senior, or a sweet shelter kitty waiting for their forever family, today is the perfect day to show some extra love to the cats in your life! 🐾

🌟 Pet Spotlight of the Week: Meet Zoey! 🌟

Zoey is one of our long-term residents, and we’re hoping this is finally the week she finds her forever family. ❤️

This sweet 3-year-old girl has an old soul. Her favorite hobbies include lounging on the couch, curling up in your lap, and soaking up all the love she can get. She’s currently on a little diet, but that just means she’ll need a comfy couch and someone to keep her company!

Zoey does need to be the only cat in the home because she has feline herpes. While it sounds scary, it only affects other cats—it cannot be passed to people or other types of animals.

If you’re looking for a calm, affectionate companion who will happily spend her days by your side, Zoey is your girl. Come meet this wonderful lady and give her the forever home she’s been waiting for

Assistance Dog Day is observed every year on August 4 as part of International Assistance Dog Week. It celebrates the incredible work of assistance dogs and the trainers, volunteers, and organizations that help prepare them to support people with disabilities.

Assistance dogs can include:

🦮 Guide dogs for people who are blind or have low vision.
👂 Hearing dogs that alert handlers to important sounds.
♿ Mobility assistance dogs that retrieve items, open doors, or provide balance support.
❤️ Medical alert and psychiatric service dogs that detect medical conditions or assist people with psychiatric disabilities.

Common ways to mark the day include:

Thanking assistance dog handlers and trainers.
Learning about the rights of assistance dog teams.
Supporting organizations that train and place assistance dogs.
Sharing information on social media to raise awareness.
