Meet Katsu! The unofficial mischief maker of the practice and furry family member of one of our CVT anesthetists, Morgan. As a baby Maine C**n kitten he occasionally comes to work with his momma for some socialization and to offer his own version of the “Cat Scan” while he “supervises” our day 🙂

Looks like Katsu loves our VetCAT (cone beam CT aka CBCT) almost as much as Dr Martin! He loves the laser positioning lights, Dr Martin loves the amazingly clear and detailed diagnostic images. He loves the warm keyboard, Dr Martin loves the speed and efficiency. Not to mention the many studies demonstrating the superiority of CBCT imaging over standard radiographs. As we strive to offer the highest standard of care in veterinary dentistry, “Cat Scans” are a big part of that 🙂

Daniella started her career in veterinary medicine in 2020 and is loving it! Daniella is a Redbank, NJ transplant who moved to Oregon with her husband after 8 years of service in the marine Corps. She switched from general practice to specialty dentistry in 2022 when she joined Premier Pet Dentistry & Oral Surgery as our client concierge. She is currently in school and on the fast track to becoming a certified veterinary technician. Daniella lives off of veggies and Red Bull, fueling her hobbies of Japanese cartoons, aquariums, and breeding shrimp. Daniella is owned by 2 dogs, a cat, and a myriad of swimming creatures.

Sydney is the newest Certified Veterinary Technician at Premier Pet Dentistry, after joining in 2022. Sydney earned her Bachelors of Science in Veterinary Technology from Texas A & M University-Kingsville in 2021. She moved to the Pacific Northwest shortly thereafter and has loved it here ever since. When she realized specialty dentistry was her niche, Sydney relocated to Portland to join Premier Pet Dentistry & Oral Surgery so she can better pursue her Veterinary Technician Specialty goals. She is also certified as a Fear Free Veterinary Professional, which aligns well with the practice culture of minimizing stress and anxiety as we care for patients who often suffer with chronic oral pain or trauma. Sydney’s favorite part of dentistry is how after treatment, we commonly see almost immediate improvement in our patients’ comfort.

Cady joined Premier Pet Dentistry & Oral Surgery in 2020. She is a native Oregonian, born and raised in the Portland metro area, but has traveled for missionary work in Haiti and Central America. Cady transitioned from working in general pet care to medicine as a Veterinary Assistant in 2018, and is currently in school to become a certified technician. Cady found her passion for dentistry and joined Dr. Martin to promote dentistry as an important factor in pet wellness and preventive care. Cady has a highly valuable skill of being able to read Dr. Martin’s mind and often acts as Dr. Martin’s proxy in practice management. Cady has experience as a shift lead in her previous role and has brought those leadership skills with her to promote a cohesive workplace. She has a green thumb and often brings her team members fresh vegetables from her surplus harvest. Cady has a menagerie of pets at home, including 2 dogs, a cat, and a flock of chickens. Cady dreams of living near the water, amongst the trees with a large garden and her animals.

Morgan is an Oregon State University graduate with a Bachelors of Science (Go Beavs!) who became a Certified Veterinary Technician in 2010. Her passion for pain management and anesthesia propelled her to complete the rigorous requirements to become one of the elite Veterinary Technician Specialists in Anesthesia and Analgesia (www.avtaa-vts.org). With less than 300 VTS credentials worldwide, Morgan is the only one in Oregon clinical private practice. She also enjoys teaching and is a frequent lecturer of continuing educations for other veterinary professionals at both the local and national level. She is passionate about specialty dentistry & oral surgery, as many of our patients are fragile and have specific anesthesia needs. Morgan has special expertise in total intravenous anesthesia, anesthesia for cardiac patients, and management of geriatric and brachycephalic patients. Morgan is a strong patient advocate, focusing on pre-admit oral sedation protocols to reduce anxiety and stress that can be associated with hospital visits. Morgan and Dr. Martin work together to develop sedation and anesthesia protocols that cater to the specific needs of each patient. Morgan is also an avid stand up paddleboarder, competing in races throughout the PNW. Morgan and her son John share their home with Kylo and Kiska, (the handsome kitty boys pictured here) and their chihuahuas Lobo and Pocoyo.

CT delivery day is better than Christmas! We are so excited to be adding this great tool for our patients. We now have the newest technology for cone beam CT scanning in the VetCat IQ by Xoran, which not only images the maxillofacial bones, but also has improved capability for soft tissues of the mouth as well, in a rapid scan we can provide table. Better medicine and optimizing anesthesia time….. whats not to love?

This week marks National Veterinary Technician Appreciation Week! Where we take extra efforts to acknowledge the people who help keep the practice running. Many people dont know what a technician is, when in reality they are many things!

Today I am extra thankful for my techs holding down the fort.

We just had to share this video of “Alice” we received the day after she had oral surgery for a canine tooth extraction. Many clients have concerns about how their pet will feel after extractions. We understand that clients worry about pain, anesthesia, and their ability to eat after a procedure.

We strongly believe in a multimodal approach to anesthesia and analgesia. Using a combination of injectable medications, local anesthetics, and anti-inflammatories, our protocols are tailored to each patient to both minimize side effects and ensure your pet is feeling this good as soon as possible after their procedure.
