Got to love Spring mud training!!! Hit a deep mud hole right in the beginning and soaked my right leg and boot. My yearlings did great and ran right though the water hole, super happy about that, just not the cold wet boot part.
Team #1- Genie/Twix in lead, Everest/Goose in team, Maverick/Yeti in wheel.
Team #2- Started Atlas/Dylan in lead, Wren, team, and Percy/Arrow in wheel.
Well, my leaders decided that they didnt really want to lead today, so I switched out and moved Wren and Percy up front, then we were moving.
Only got pictures of team #2-

We made it back from the IFSS World Championships and World Masters Dryland 2025
We placed 6th both days in our 6-dog rig class. I'm super proud of my guys. They gave it their all on a challenging hilly course.
We definitely didn't come into the Championship with the training that we needed, but we did the best we could do. Clean runs both day, no tangles. Hills are all about line management!
Quite an experience. Congratulations to all the competitors that made the podium. And congratulations to everyone who qualified and ran the Championship!!
For the rest of the fall, we will be staying in Michigan for races. We'll see what winter brings!! See you all on the trail❤️

Vet care! We take vet care very seriously here at the Caswell household! As spring dryland finishes, we start scheduling appts to the necessary vet care taken care of.
We do 2 groups of vaccines, large group in the spring and a smaller group in the fall.

Heartworm checks on all dogs EVERY spring- we do this yearly. We want to make sure the preventives that I'm giving the dogs are working!! And YES! All dogs are on a monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventive year round!!
This is some of our biggest monthly expenses, but its worth it to me to make sure my guys area fully protected ❤️

Vaccines- they get the works-
Bordetella- ✔️
DHLPPC(including lepto/corona)✔️
Lyme-✔️
Rabies-✔️

Bloodwork: I make sure everyone has bloodwork ran at some point- not when they're sick, but healthy, so we have a base line. That way, if/when something should happen, we know what their normal is and what has changed.
If any dogs are coming in for a procedure, they get bloodwork.

Dental care: this is very important! You can definitely give chews, chicken feet, or even brush their teeth to help with dental care. But just like us, they need to see a dentist too! I have 4 dogs that need to have yearly dental and they get them. Everyone else rotates every other, to every 2 yrs. I keep a close eye on all their months and see who needs to get in.

Spays/Neuters- sometimes I feel like its taboo in working dog world. So many people won't spay or neuter claiming it takes away their working drive. I have found that claim to be false. Are there dogs that could be affected that way, sure, just like in all things. But for me, that sediment does not hold true.
Any dog that I have no intention of breeding(for one reason or another) will be spayed or Neutered. It makes my kennel so much happier not having all the extra hormones flying around too. I find that it makes my dogs more focused on their job. Especially the boys!!!

With all that being said, we definitely have been busy this summer getting all our vet care needs met.

Piper- hurt her back and received laser treatments
Maverick and Goose were Neutered
Charlie- Laser treatment- scheduled for Knee surgery-(bloodwork/xrays) consultation with specialist determined it was not necessary at this time. Maintain with joint supplement/pain meds as needed- no team running, Canihike/Canicross is good. -Spayed
Hero, Polly, Artemis and Piper all had Dentals this year.
Arrow- needed some sutures

So- now on to fall🍁🍂 training(if it will cool back down) and getting ready for fall dryland.

Morning everyone!! SO......, I've should of asked this question before now- but I've just been so back and forth with it. Is anyone planning on adding a new team member still this year???
I really would like to have a Litter with River and Arrow- I just can't keep the whole litter like I tried to so last time😉. I'd love too, but realistically, I can't. Over the last year- I've had a few people ask about puppies- I just don't have litters often- it's been 4 yrs since my 1st litter of pups -

Howling Spirits Carrot( RIver) X Starfire Frosty Arrow of Whtie Paw-
(OFA Good hips- Good Elbows)X (OFA Excellent Hips- Good Elbows)
Working line X Seppala cross-
Both these dogs are leaders and run solo or leads a team of any size. Both are very confident, great drive, affectionate, friendly dogs- I would expect these pups to have great drive, easy trainability, be problem solvers, and high leader potential.

- If any interest- please let me know ASAP- as she is coming in season now(terrible timing🤦‍♀️)- just send me a message.

Let's talk more about the dogs that make up team White Paw!! The next two dogs on our 6-dog team are Percy and Goose. They run point on the team, right behind the leaders.

Percy- intact- 4 yrs male- bred by me- from the "fly girls and water boy" litter. Percy was the biggest pup from that litter and topped out the biggest dog from that litter. Percy is just a big goof- all around nice guy. He doesn't have a mean bone in his body. He can run anywhere on the team, lead, point, wheel, 2- dog bike or scooter. If I'm running two teams (4-dog and 6-dog), Atlas is leading one, and Percy is leading the other. On a team, he one of those dogs you don't have to worry about- he knows his jobs and does it.

Goose- Neutered- 3 yr male - Bred by Jamie Perry -
Goose is a big goof ball as well. Nice big strong dog who has a brain that doesn't stop. Goose was the smartest dog in the kennel, but Everest (six-month-old pup) is giving him a run for his money. 😉 Goose is by far, the best leash dog and has excellent manners. He is also a big mama boy- he doesn't like to disappoint and strives to do his very best. Goose prefers point position - he can run wheel if needed and is learning lead. He did lead his 1st race last fall at Dirty Dog and didn't do too bad. Super proud of him!! I love watching him grow and develop into an amazing sled dog.

The Next two dogs on the team are Arrow and Maverick - the wheel dogs!!

Arrow- intact- 6 yr old male - Bred by Julie Davis -
Arrow is my main boy- he was my 1st Siberian male that I added to my kennel - and foundation male of my kennel - he is the sire of the "fly girls and water boys" litter. He has a nice build, smart, sensitive, yet hardheaded, Crazy drive. He passed along a lot of great quality to his kids. All 3 that are here are main leaders for me! Arrow was a shiny star right from the start. Arrow is my best mono dog, and we rock the bike together - though, I prefer 2 dog bike verses 1 dog bike. He is a gentleman when it's just him and I, but when he's hooked into a team, he a beast, all business. He used to run any position on the team but is most in wheel now. That is where he prefers to be. Arrow is a pleaser and just wants to make me happy. He loves cuddle time and never wants it to stop.

Maverick- Intact (soon to be neutered) 3 yr male- bred by Julia Davis - Maverick is a nephew to my Piper - hoping he would have more of her qualities, were in reality, he much more like his uncle Finn (Evergreen Seppala's)- a perpetually puppy. Another goof and a lover of everyone!! Not shy at all and wants all the attention. Super sweet dog and big lover!! Maverick has one big quirk and that's lack of focus when racing. We are working on that, and it's getting better. When he's focused, he's great, hard driver, fast. When he's not, it's a mess. Maverick runs best next his "Brother", Goose (they grew up together). Maverick runs in team and wheel position- He's too much of a big puppy for lead and that's ok.
This spring season was really good for him, much more focused, and when he'd strayed, I was able to pull him back to business much fast then in the fall. Hoping he continues to mature through the summer and stays focused when in harness.

So that finishes up our 6-dog race team- these are the dogs that will be competing at the World Championship In Oct.

What a hot weekend!! Heat index 102 degrees!!! So, let's talk about sled dogs!!😊
Our next amazing Leader on the team is Altas. One of my main boys!!
White Paws Atlas- neutered- 4 yr old - from the "fly girls & water boys" litter - He was a born leader - shown potential right from the start. There really isn't a time that I don't have this boy in lead. I try to give him breaks during training, to help take the pressure off of leading all the time and I do think he enjoys following every so often, but he loves being a leader. In every race pic, Atlas is there, up front. I honestly didn't even realize how much I relied on this dog, until I was going through pictures. I have a few really nice leaders, and Atlas is always running with one of them. His favorite running partners are his siblings- his brother Percy and his sister Wren. I think he likes running with River too!☺️

And to think- I almost sold this boy, twice. Both times, something came up on the buyers' end, so there was my sign that he needed to stay right here, with me and his team. He's loud, obnoxious, overly hyped at hook up and while waiting go - but I wouldn't have him any other way- that's just Atlas-

He runs lead with a any size team, single dog bike/scooter (though he prefers a bike cause mom can help more) 2 dog scooter/bike - Canicross....only if he has a strong runner. Which is definitely not me, I had to run sooo fast, I was afraid I was going to trip and fall face forward. Never again Bub, we'll we canicross😨- and when I walk, he gets so impatient - he starts jumping up and down like he has springs in his hind legs - it's pretty funning to watch.

Let's post about the dogs!! By now, I'm sure most of you have seen my post about our upcoming world championship race coming up In Oct 2025 in WI - and I talked about doing some Bio on the pups - So, Let's start with our 6- dog team!!
Atlas and Wren are our leaders - My dynamic duo!
Goose and Percy are our swing/team dogs-
Arrow and Maverick are our wheel dogs-

Let's start out by introducing our leaders!!

White Paw's Wren
"Wren" - 4 yr old intact female- daughter of Arrow(Seppala) and Polly(Working Line Siberian)
Wren is from my own litter that I bred, raised and trained. She has always been my girl. Always out going, confident, huge drive. Last season she was a super star. Wren is always a leader- whether we are running 2 -dog bike or she is leading a 10-dog team. The front is where she wants to be. Wren and Atlas truly are dynamic duo. They are a sister/brother team and run very well with each other.
When Wren 1st started in her training, we had a set back and she broke her confidence. It took us some time to build it back up and her sister Dovey is the one who pulled her out of it💕. We continued to build her back up slowly and now she is one of my best racing command leaders.
She is super sweet, cuddly and wants all the attention-
Wren is the only female on our 6-day team - but she can hang with them boys all day, and in some instances, whoops their butts.

This was last weekend at Mystic Lake. 4 dog team, Atlas and River in Lead, Percy and Hero in wheel. 2 dog bike- Daddy/daughter team- Arrow and Raven.
We placed 2nd in 4 dog and 3rd(by 2 milliseconds) in 2 dog bike. Was a pretty good weekend considering my guys are way out of shape. It's been a hard season for me, personally- and my guys have been nothing but amazing through it all. ❤️❤️❤️
So this spring- the plan is to get out and just enjoy my dogs- as far as placing goes- I honestly don't care. As long as we have good clean runs and have a good time running, that's what matters. 💜
