๐Ÿพ Delaware Darlings of the Week ๐Ÿพ
Say Howdy to Strait!

Strait isnโ€™t just a Great Dane โ€” heโ€™s a mini horse in disguise (or so he believes)! ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ’™ This gentle, goofy giant is owned and adored by our very own Dr. Glanzer and lives a life as big as his heart.

Named after the one and only George Strait, this handsome boy is every bit the country legend in his own right. Strait shares his home with two actual horses, which might explain why he struts around with serious cowboy confidence. ๐Ÿค  Heโ€™s never far from the action, often tagging along with Dr. Glanzer to rodeos and barrel racing events like a true four-legged rodeo roadie.

When he canโ€™t hit the road, Strait enjoys VIP status in our deluxe boarding runs โ€” lounging in style and soaking up the royal treatment. And when heโ€™s not playing cowboy, heโ€™s channeling his inner beach bum! ๐ŸŒŠโ˜€๏ธ Strait loves the beach, and nothing makes him happier than feeling the sand between his paws and the breeze in his (very large) ears.

Strait is a total sweetheart and certified lover boy. If youโ€™re offering up a good olโ€™ b***y rub, heโ€™ll be your best friend for life. ๐Ÿถโค๏ธ

Weโ€™re all head-over-heels for Strait and feel so lucky to have him as part of the Delaware Animal Clinic family. He brings joy, laughter, and plenty of slobbery kisses โ€” not to mention endless companionship to Dr. Glanzer.

We love you, Strait! You may have been named after a country legend, but around here, youโ€™re the real star.

Warning: Rodenticides & Pesticides Can Be Deadly to Pets!
Spring is here, and that means more people are treating their homes and yards for pests โ€” but those solutions can pose serious dangers to your pets.

๐Ÿงช Rodenticides (rat & mouse poison) can cause:
Internal bleeding
Seizures
Organ failure
Death โ€” even in small amounts
Even indirect exposure (like eating a poisoned rodent) can be fatal.

๐Ÿชณ Pesticides & Insecticides may cause:
Vomiting, tremors, or seizures
Skin irritation
Neurological issues
Long-term health problems

๐Ÿ›‘ Protect your pets:
โœ”๏ธ Never use poisons where pets (or wildlife!) can access them
โœ”๏ธ Read all labels carefully โ€” even โ€œpet-safeโ€ products can be risky if misused
โœ”๏ธ Keep pets indoors after treatments, and wipe paws after walks
โœ”๏ธ Call us or poison control immediately if you think your pet has been exposed

At Delaware Animal Clinic, weโ€™re always here to help if you have questions about whatโ€™s safe โ€” because your petโ€™s health is our priority! โค๏ธ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

๐Ÿ“ž Don't hesitate to reach out if youโ€™re ever unsure.

๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿพ Wildlife Watch: Protect Your Pets in Southeast Texas! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿฆ‡

Southeast Texas is full of wildlife โ€” raccoons, opossums, skunks, bats, and more. While they may seem harmless (or even cute), they can pose serious health risks to your pets.

โš ๏ธ Hereโ€™s what you need to watch out for:

๐Ÿฆ  Rabies โ€“ Spread through bites or saliva, this deadly virus is most commonly carried by bats, raccoons, and skunks. Make sure your pets are up-to-date on their rabies vaccine โ€” itโ€™s required by law and itโ€™s their best protection.

๐Ÿ’ง Leptospirosis โ€“ A bacterial disease spread through standing water contaminated with urine from infected wildlife. It can lead to kidney or liver failure and can also spread to humans. We highly recommend the Lepto vaccine for dogs, especially in our region.

๐Ÿงซ Intestinal Parasites โ€“ Raccoons and other wildlife can carry roundworms, hookworms, and other parasites that can infect pets โ€” and even people. Regular deworming and f***l checks are key.

๐Ÿ›‘ Donโ€™t forget:
โœ”๏ธ Keep pet food and trash secured
โœ”๏ธ Avoid contact with wildlife (dead or alive)
โœ”๏ธ Supervise pets when outdoors
โœ”๏ธ Call us if you suspect exposure to any of the above!

Your pets depend on you to keep them safe โ€” and weโ€™re here to help every step of the way. ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿ’‰

๐Ÿ“ž Questions about vaccines or parasite prevention? Call us at Delaware Animal Clinic โ€” weโ€™re happy to help!

๐Ÿพ This Week on Delaware Darlings: Meet Beni! ๐Ÿพ

Beni is owned (or should we say, allowed to be owned) by our amazing vet tech, Reagan! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ’™

Beni is a proud rescue pup who fully embraces his role as household royalty. ๐Ÿ‘‘ He prefers the finer things in life โ€” like being carried instead of walking and using his irresistible good looks to get his way. And if charm doesnโ€™t work? Beni isnโ€™t shy about howling until someone listens. This little guy knows exactly what he wants!

While he may be a bit of a bossy boy, we absolutely adore his sassy personality and the happiness he brings to Reagan and all of us here at Delaware Animal Clinic.

Stay tuned for next weekโ€™s feature, where we continue to show off the beloved pets of our team in Delaware Darlings! ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’•

๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿถ Got a Nervous Pup or Stressed-Out Kitty? Weโ€™ve Got Something That Can Help! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’œ

If your pet deals with anxiety โ€” whether it's from thunderstorms, separation, new environments, or everyday stress โ€” ask us about Purina Calming Care!

๐ŸŒฟ What is it?
Calming Care is a probiotic supplement that helps promote a calm behavior in dogs and cats. It supports your petโ€™s natural brain-gut connection to manage stress without sedation.

๐Ÿ’Š Easy to sprinkle on food
โฑ๏ธ Works gradually over time (usually in 4-6 weeks)
๐Ÿพ Helps with behaviors like pacing, barking, whining, hiding, or restlessness

Perfect for:
โœ”๏ธ Storm season (hello, Southeast Texas weather!)
โœ”๏ธ Fireworks and holiday stress
โœ”๏ธ Boarding, grooming, or vet visits
โœ”๏ธ General anxiety or reactivity

Let us know if youโ€™re interested โ€” weโ€™d be happy to see if itโ€™s a good fit for your furry friend. โค๏ธ

๐ŸŠโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿถ Pool Time? Be Careful What Your Petโ€™s Drinking! ๐Ÿพโ˜€๏ธ

As the temperatures rise, many of us (and our pets!) love cooling off by the pool. But did you know that pool water can be dangerous if your dog or cat drinks too much of it?

๐Ÿ’ง Hereโ€™s why pool water isnโ€™t safe to drink:
Chlorine and other pool chemicals can irritate the stomach and cause vomiting or diarrhea.
In large amounts, it can even lead to more serious issues like electrolyte imbalances.
Saltwater pools arenโ€™t safe either โ€” too much salt is toxic for pets.

๐Ÿพ What to do:
Always provide fresh, clean drinking water outside by the pool.
Keep an eye on your pet โ€” some animals love lapping up water while swimming!
Rinse off your pet after a swim to avoid skin irritation.

Letโ€™s keep pool time safe and fun for everyone โ€” furry friends included! ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ’ฆ

๐Ÿ Snake Bite Season is Here โ€” Protect Your Pets! ๐Ÿพ

As the weather warms up in Southeast Texas, venomous snakes like copperheads, cottonmouths, and rattlesnakes become more active โ€” and curious pets are at risk.

โžก๏ธ Tips to keep your pets safe:
Keep grass trimmed and yards clear of brush or woodpiles.
Stay on-leash during walks, especially near wooded areas or water.
Be cautious at dawn and dusk โ€” snakes are more active then.

If you suspect a snake bite, donโ€™t wait โ€” seek veterinary care immediately. Time is critical.

๐Ÿšจ Know the signs of a snake bite:
Sudden swelling (especially around the face or legs)
Pain or yelping
Lethargy or collapse
Puncture wounds or bruising

Weโ€™re here if you need us. Stay safe and keep those furry friends protected! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑโค๏ธ

Our Story

Dr. Dawn Karnicki and her team are committed to bringing you and your pets better health by practicing the science of Veterinary Medicine. Beaumont based Delaware Animal Clinic was founded in 1984. Since then our staff has been performing veterinarian medicine and compassionate animal care in the Beaumont area. Delaware Animal Clinic is a full-service Animal Hospital whose mission is to provide the highest standard of quality and compassion in veterinary care for our patients and welcoming, informative, and supportive service for our clients, while maintaining a superior working environment for our employees. Delaware Animal Clinic offers the Beaumont animal community emergency veterinary services during regular business hours, in addition to standard medical, surgical, and dental veterinary care. Because we have an in-house pharmacy, lab, radiology facilities, surgical suite, iM3 veterinary dental equipment, Tonopen eye pressure measurement, Cardell blood pressure monitor, Idexx Cardiopet ECG services, and intensive care services, our facility enables you to make one stop for your pet's medical care. We are open for appointments during normal business hours, Monday through Friday. Our mission is to provide comprehensive high quality medical and surgical care to our patients and offer the best possible service to our clients. *NOTE* We understand situations arise in which you must cancel your appointment. It is therefore requested that if you must cancel your appointment, you provide more than 24 hoursโ€™ notice. This will allow another patient who is waiting for an appointment to be scheduled in that time slot. When cancellations are made with less than 24 hoursโ€™ notice, we are unable to offer that time to other patients. Clients who do not show up for their appointment or provide less than 24 hoursโ€™ notice of cancellation will be considered a NO SHOW. Clients who do this three (3) or more times in a 12 month period will be required to pre-pay the examination fee in order to book any future appointments. We understand that unavoidable circumstances may cause you to cancel within 24 hours. Fees in this instance may be waived but only with management approval. Our practice firmly believes that a good DVM/client relationship is based upon understanding and good communication. Questions about our NO SHOW policy should be directed to Judith at 409-892-2821.
