Dr. Karnicki will be **out of the office next week** and **today and tomorrow are her last days in the clinic before she returns on Monday, July 27.**

We wanted to give everyone plenty of notice that Dr. Karnicki will be out of the office from July 18th through July 25th.

Don't worry, we're not closing! 🐾 Our team will still be here to care for you and your pets. During this time we'll continue to offer:

🐶 Technician appointments
🐱 Boarding drop-offs and pick-ups
💊 Medication refill pick-ups (for approved prescriptions)
✂️ Nail trims and other technician services
💉 Eligible vaccine booster appointments

Because we will not have a veterinarian on-site during these dates, we encourage you to schedule any doctor exams, sick visits, or appointments requiring a veterinarian before July 18th or after July 25th.

📣 **WE HEARD YOU!** 📣

Starting next week, Delaware Animal Clinic will officially be OPEN during lunch every day! 🎉

Over the past several months, many of you have told us that it can be difficult to stop by for medications, food, prescription pickups, or other needs while we're closed during the middle of the day. We listened!

**Beginning next week:**
🐾 We will be **open through lunch Monday–Thursday**, so you can stop by throughout the day without worrying about a midday closure.

And there's more!

🎉 **WEDNESDAYS just got even better!** 🎉

To help make scheduling a little easier, we'll now be offering appointment times between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM every Wednesday! These additional appointment slots are designed to give you more flexibility if mornings or afternoons are difficult with work or school.

Our goal is always to make caring for your pets as convenient as possible, and we're excited to offer these expanded hours to better serve our amazing clients and patients.

☀️ Pool Days Are More Fun When They're Safe! 🐾

Many pets love cooling off in the pool during these hot summer days, but there are a few things every pet parent should know:

🏊 Don't let your pet drink pool water. Small amounts usually aren't harmful, but drinking too much chlorinated water can lead to stomach upset, vomiting, diarrhea, and dehydration.

💧 Always provide fresh, cool drinking water nearby so your pet isn't tempted to drink from the pool.

🛟 Not all dogs can swim well. Even strong swimmers can become tired quickly. Never leave your pet unattended around the pool and consider a properly fitted life jacket if they're inexperienced or swimming in deeper water.

🌡️ Watch for signs of overheating. Swimming helps cool them down, but pets still need plenty of shade and breaks out of the sun.

🧴 Rinse your pet off after swimming. A quick rinse helps remove chlorine and other pool chemicals from their skin and coat, reducing irritation.

🐾 Teach your pet where the steps are. Make sure they know how to safely get out of the pool before letting them swim.

A little preparation goes a long way in keeping summer pool days safe and enjoyable for everyone!

🌡️ Heat Stroke Can Become an Emergency in Minutes

With Southeast Texas temperatures climbing, pets are at serious risk for heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Dogs and cats cannot cool themselves as efficiently as people, and even a short time in the heat can become dangerous.

Watch for signs such as:
• Excessive panting
• Drooling
• Bright red gums
• Weakness or lethargy
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Disorientation or stumbling
• Collapse

Never leave your pet in a parked vehicle, even for a few minutes. Temperatures inside a car can rise to dangerous levels very quickly.

To help keep your pets safe:
✓ Provide plenty of fresh water
✓ Limit outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day
✓ Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening
✓ Ensure access to shade and air conditioning whenever possible
✓ Remember that hot pavement can burn paw pads

If you suspect your pet may be experiencing heat stroke, move them to a cool area immediately and contact a veterinarian right away. Heat stroke is a life-threatening emergency and early treatment can make all the difference.
