To Anyone Thinking of Rehoming Your Dog (or cat):
It's not going to happen, plain & simple.
You don't have "enough time" for it? You think it "deserves better"? You're moving somewhere that won't allow pets? Guess what? In case you did not know - because if you are not in rescue - the average joe just doesn't have a clue.......
WE ARE IN AN OVERPOPULATION CRISIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We've been in crisis already for a few years. But, it's now to the point that adoptions from shelter and local rescues are (and HAVE been) at a STANDSTILL. And, fosters are nowhere to be found!!! And, it's not just here - it's now becoming harder and harder to get them to the out-of-state rescues, as THEY are now staying full or over-capacity themselves!!!! Even Canada, who has been taking so many dogs from Texas, is starting to have an overpopulation problem in certain areas of their country!!!
What does this mean for YOUR dog or cat that you are wanting to rehome? Be prepared to wait for months upon months......to a YEAR or more, to try to find a GOOD home for it. Unless you just don't care what kind of person it goes to - meaning how they're gonna treat it? Are they going to abuse it, neglect it, throw it in the backyard and forget about it? Give it to someone who'll use it for dog fighting???? Dump them off somewhere to suffer and die?
People are abandoning and dumping their pets, now - more than EVER! Taking them to rural areas, desolate areas - and just throwing them out of their cars and driving off - leaving them to fend for themselves. Leaving them scared, heartbroken and confused. Leaving them to starve to death, die of hunger and thirst. OR to get run over and lay on the road suffering in horrible pain - in the baking sun, then die all alone. OR leaving them to get attacked by wildlife - which means "eaten alive"! OR to get attacked by packs of wild dogs (who were once tame, loving pets themselves but are in survival mode now). OR leaving them to get found by "bad" people who will shoot at them, poisen them, beat them, etc.
Are you going to be one of "those" people?
Or, are you going to realize that you made a commitment to an innocent animal when you adopted it, or took it in - and that it is YOUR responsibility to keep it and love it and care for it, until it's natural time to die comes? It has loved you unconditionally. It trusts in YOU to take good care of it and love it for it's entire life.
Rescuers are overwhelmed, exhausted, over-capacity and broke. Donations just don't stretch, like they used to, with the amount of animals they now have. The animals you people are abandoning and dumping and leaving to suffer and get badly hurt or become emaciated, among so many other things.
So, if you are thinking about "rehoming" your dog or cat nowadays - there's NOONE available to take it. NOONE.
Trust and believe that it would rather be with you, no matter how much you're away from home, working, etc......than to be in any of the above mentioned predicaments.
Please keep your pets.
Please love your pets.
Please care for your pets.
YOU are their entire world.
They would die for YOU.
UNCONDITIONAL LOVE is in their eyes and in their hearts.
