We're Full!

BISSELL Pet Foundation and Front Porch Vineyards are here to help with an Empty the Shelter & Choose Your Adoption Fee Event!!!!!

On Saturday, starting at 11am when the Dog Days of Summer event starts, all 15 of these dogs, and a few more not pictured will be available for adoption AT Front Porch Vineyards during our Dog Days of Summer Event, for an adoption fee of your choosing. Choose $20, choose $50, choose $300, if you're the adopter, it's your choice!!! But the most important choice is to CHOOSE ADOPTION!!!!!

All children in the home and all resident dogs MUST COME and meet the dog prior to the adoption, the first qualified adopters in line at 11am with all members of their family present will get the first opportunity to meet dogs at this event and there will be no holds.

We will not be doing any dog adoptions at our shelter on Saturday as the majority of our staff will be at the event to hopefully assist with 15+ dog adoptions, wouldn't it be great if we come home with an empty van? That would sure empty our shelter!!!!

Cat lovers! You can join the Choose Your Adoption Fee Event fun on Sunday at 12pm when we will offer the same special to all animals at our shelter, dogs, cats, puppies, kittens and even the rabbit!!!!!!!!

This event ends on Friday June 18th at 6pm when we close for the night, so don't delay! Come adopt your new best friend for an adoption fee that YOU CHOOSE!!!!!

This affects people and animals! If you keep your pets current on flea and tick medication, and take simple precautions when you are out and about, especially in long grass, everyone in the family is safer! Last week our shelter director was bitten by over a dozen seed ticks that are very tiny and hard to spot, but can transmit tick borne diseases and cause Alpha-Gal syndrome which is an allergy to red meat! Prevention is key as some tick bourne diseases are not truly treatable.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, July has already seen the highest number of tick-related emergency room visits since 2017.

Whelp.... WeHadABabyItsABoy!!
Sometimes when we least expect it, an animal's gender surprises us..... Tennessee is a BOY!

Yeah yeah we all know, let's hear all the but you couldn't see the balls or the weiner jokes... We've been laughing at them all week too, so feel free to drop a few of those below!

As for a Tennessee update:

**He's a boy, well he was, now he's a neutered boy. Sorry bud, you didn't need them we promise!

**We pulled no less than a hundred *more* ticks off of him. So many ticks. Please use prevention on your dogs this year, especially if they're farm dogs. If this has gone on any longer, he likely would have become anemic because he can't produce blood faster than they were eating it, and it's even worse in smaller dogs and cats!

**His bloodwork was fantastic especially considering his severe tick infestation. He was clear of all tick bourne diseases and heartworm disease for now! (He will need a recheck in a few months)

** He has 2 broken toes, that's the reason for the big limp... they're not surgical at this time and will hopefully continue healing appropriately on their own.

** He's had an awkward shave job to help expose some of his infected skin so we can get his whole body healthy again

** He's had a bath because swimming in a farm pond doesn't count- Or help the skin infection we are trying to treat!

** And maybe most importantly, he's found a safe and loving foster home to rest his head. One of our repeat adopters came to our shelter today to meet a completely different dog in hopes of finding a therapy dog prospect and she didn't work out. But Tennessee turned on his charm even just a few hours after being neutered and as long as he continues to win over his new housemate and excels at his therapy dog training (He's already 50% of the way there) our next update might just be an adoption photo ๐Ÿซฃ

But let's not put our cart in front of the horse. He's still got some medical stuff (and training) to overcome and we are so thankful everyone of you for helping him do just that!

Every animal gets a chance because of you.

Thank you- and you- and you- and anyone else we missed! Because of you, we are able to keep helping animals and leading our state in saving lives.
We have been No-Kill by the official 90% standard since 2015, but each year we still ask ourselves, what else can we do? How else can we help? Who else can we save? That led to opening our Low Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic and the massive Wymore & Blue Springs Free Fix'em Clinic last month. We are committed to helping our community- people and their animals- live their very best lives going forward into the future. You help us do that every day!
Join us this weekend for the Dog Days of Summer event at Front Porch Vineyards to celebrate our lifesaving efforts. Bring your family (friendly, vaccinated, leashed dogs welcome and encouraged!) come have some wine, eat some BBQ, visit some great vendors, enjoy live music and meet some AMAZING adoptable dogs!

Tennessee needs your help.
She came in as a stray on July 3rd and has not been reclaimed, though we are unsurprised as we have been following this girl for awhile- the fireworks and the holiday is not where her story started.... She has been running as a stray for over a month around Blue Springs and to our best understanding, the fireworks in town scared her away from town. Fortunately she found the camp hosts at Rockford SRA and they got her to safety with us. But it's not going to be an easy road for her. At some point based on the online chronicles of her adventures she probably tangled with a vehicle and injured her pelvis or back leg and she was covered from nose to tail with hundreds, or maybe even thousands of ticks.
We have started her path to recovery- she has access to clean fresh water and food, she's had tick medication, we've started her vaccines and preventative dewormers. This week she will need radiographs, bloodwork to rule out any complications from the excessive number of ticks she was covered in, and if she's healthy enough, a spay. After being on the run for over a month, her body absolutely cannot (and should not have to!) handle a pregnancy, so getting her spayed right away is a priority. Then depending on what the radiographs show, she may require extra treatments of surgery for whatever injury she has on her hind leg.
This all comes at a cost. Due to the high number of stray dogs we've taken in last month, today we spent almost $250 on adult dog food, and it may only last us a couple of weeks!
If you would like to donate to Tennessee's care, or to our general dog fund, we appreciate all donations. Each stray that comes in will get whatever care it is that they need. But your ongoing donations help guarantee that for every Tennessee in need. Every donation, whether $5 or $500 helps, and if you are more inclined to donate items, she would love nylabones and Purina dog chow. She even promises to share with her new shelter friends.

Flea & Tick Medication: $12
Initial vaccines: $20
Blood work, heartworm test and testing for tick bourne diseases like Lyme, Anaplasmosis, and Erlichia: $200
Radiographs of her pelvis and left hind leg: $200
Spay (if she's healthy enough): $175
Hip/leg medications/surgery.... Unknown could be $50 or $5000 our diagnostics this week will help us create a plan.
Food for her and the other dogs in our shelter for the next 2 weeks: $250

Finally, Tennessee will be looking for a foster or adopter once we have some details on her medical status. An ideal home will be patient as she readjusts to indoor home life and have a secure fenced yard or take her on leash walks, she has already spent too long on the lam, we want her next home to give her the love and safety she is just finally getting used to.

Welcome to safety Tennessee, we are here to help and can't wait to see you recover and shine! This next chapter is titled "Recovery"... But the one after that... That's the really special one we are looking forward to. That's the one titled "Adopted... Happily Ever After" I promise it'll make everything you've been through in the last month so worth it.

P.s. food donations can be sent directly to our shelter or delivered any day this week, we prefer Purina dog chow or Iams Adult Dog Food. Donations can also be made through our website, PayPal or Venmo, see attached QR codes and make sure you are only donating to these two accounts or through our website, many scammers are now targeting non-profit organizations.

PPS... if we get the all clear from the vets this week, Tennessee might be one of our adoptable dogs at our Dog Days of Summer event at Front Porch Vineyards next Saturday. Come meet her and our other adoptable and very deserving dogs, drink some wine and enjoy some time with our furry best friends.

No-Kill facility!

For many years, BHS (Beatrice Humane Society) has been sheltering abandoned animals, fighting cruelty and neglect, and working to build a caring, compassionate community here in Beatrice, Nebraska.

Although we have lots of volunteers and members, we are really nothing more than a single entity saying โ€œYes, I want to help!โ€

Help us to help you and a pet friendโ€ฆ check out what cats and dogs are available, or find out more about volunteering or donating to help the pets still awaiting families!
