Let’s talk elderly dogs! This is NOT directed at anyone in particular, I just got reminded 😁
We’re getting to a point where a lot of your sweet babies I’ve been grooming since I was Oakview are getting up there in years, so I wanted to explain my process for my older dogs.
First, please understand that the hardest part of my job is how attached I get! I love my clients like my own pets, and it hurts when I get those calls but I appreciate being kept in the loop 🥹
So that brings me to my second point. If I tell you I can no longer groom your dog the same or at all, know it is coming from a place of love and care for your animal’s well being.
We have to make them stand, lift legs, blow dry, etc and that can be stressful for them, even if they’ve been coming since 8 weeks. At a certain point, their regular haircut may be too much and we’ll need to focus on comfort more than style. We have to find the balance of what is worth the stress for them. That may mean going shorter so we don’t have to do it as often, or switching to bath only. It may not look perfect, but my top priority is keeping your pet safe and comfortable. If your dog is comfortable here (most of them are, you should see how they happily come back with me once you leave 😂), I may keep them longer and work in parts so they can rest and take breaks. Again, my priority is what is best for the dog in front of me.
Thank you all for understanding and for trusting me with your furry family members 🐶 🐱 🐾
