Ivy and Lilly recently got to be a part of a school project for a very special little lady, Charlie’s granddaughter, Madelyn! They did their very own version of “Flat Stanley” where they sent postcards to every state. Ivy and Lilly (with the help of Grandpa Charlie and Grandma Okcha) got to send a post card back for Madelyn to have a little piece of Pennsylvania every day on her way to school!

Brokenstraw Farms is so lucky to have such loving family members, even from afar! Here’s hoping Madelyn follows in Grandpa Charlie’s footsteps!

We were also fortunate to have Connie Hultman get up on the 6 Horse Hitch this year! For those who don’t know, Connie not only helped the founding of Draft Horses at the Warren County Fair, but has been a crucial part of the fair for over 50 years! It’s largely because of Connie that the Warren County Fair even has draft horses, and we couldnt be more thankful to him for that! This was his last year announcing for the draft horse show, so it was only fair for Connie to get one more ride!

For the last few years, Brokenstraw Percheron Farm has been lucky enough to have horses in the 6 horse hitch. This year, we had Ollie, Levi, and Ivy as part of the team. Not many people understand the amount of hard work and effort that goes into this kind of hitch, but we are so fortunate to be part of it!

Eric placed second while Rayna took home first place!

Additionally, Eric, Charlie, Toby, and Andy were brought out into the ring for being one of the founding families of the Warren County Fair Draft Horse Show. Years ago, Carl and Grant had a dream of owning and showing Percheron Horses. Today, Carl Spelling’s sons keep that dream alive! As much work goes into these horses and fair week, the Spelling’s continue to put love, sweat, and lots of money into keeping the original dream alive.

Most recent update: Moms levels are getting more normal. Not exactly where they need to be, but getting there. It’s going to be a slow process, but at least it’s progress. They’re taking 150cc’s of fluid off her through dialysis, and so far, she seems to be handling the dialysis well! She is still on the ventilator, we aren’t sure how much longer she’ll need it, but the doctors think at least a few more days. As always, please keep sharing, praying, and having the faith. In times like these, mom would say “God doesn’t give you what you can’t handle”. Or, better yet, she’d say “it’ll be alright in the end, if it’s not alright, it’s not the end” ❤️

We got her blood pressure up to where it needs to be, and we should be starting dialysis this afternoon! The goal is to help her kidneys a bit, and hopefully remove some of the pressure the fluid is causing around her lungs. Keep sharing, keep praying, and keep the faith that this tough ass woman is going to pull through ❤️
