This is a cause near and dear to my heart, being someone who not only lives with disabilities but has benefited greatly from the work of a service dog. My hope is to help in my own small way to give to a worthy cause that is helping so many live a greater quality of life.
ECAD is an organization that breeds, raises, trains, and pairs service dogs with people with disabilities, all at no cost to the recipient. They are dedicated to their mission, " to enable people with disabilities to gain greater independence and mobility through the use of specially educated dogs."
They have multiple focused projects to train different dogs for different disabilities, including their Open Doors program which has helped over 300 individuals with 50 different disabilities, their Canine Magic program for children living with autism, and Project HEAL, a program dedicated to serving our nation's veterans and providing them with assistance dogs specially trained for the physical and internal scars of war like PTSD and TBI.
